Vintage Thingies Thursdays: Vintage Cabin Treasures
I have decided since I am still a little homesick for our place in the mountains, I would include a few vintage-y things I have there and share them with you today for Vintage Thingies Thursday.
First, is a old wooden rolling pin. This rolling pin was given to me for Christmas one year by my mother-in-law, Pat. She had gone on a trip east in the fall with her sister, June to enjoy the fall foliage. She and her sister had stopped off in an antique store, and that year for Christmas, I got some great vintage goodies. This is one of them. I have this in the kitchen on a not-so-old holder, but I think it looks cute.
This next item is a framed piece of art.This is an old Yo-Yo quilt swatch. I worked at a restaurant here in Ft. Worth when they were doing a upgrade to the dining room. This picture hung in the dining room over the booths. They were going to put it in the dumpster. Can you imaging tossing something like this away?? I rescued it.
I love the charm of this piece. The colors are great and it adds a little country charm to the second bedroom. It sits on the wall over a quilt rack shelf. The quilted rabbit and bear are not old. Well, I guess you could say they are, I have had them for about 19 years, and the quilt scraps they are made from are older than that. So, I guess they would qualify for VTT too.
Here is a muted close up of the yo-yo's. They appear to maybe be made out of old flour sacks. I love the patterns and the colors.
Next is a real gem. I have a small quilt that I purchased at a fundraiser auction at my children's school several years ago. I know this is very old. It's not too thick, and the stitches are wonderfully stitched. This hangs under the shelf in the second bedroom at our cabin. It's really a nice little quilt.
Now, in my opinion, I have saved the best for last. Let me give you a little history first......
When we purchased our cabin in the mountains, the original owners has used it for a hunting shack, storage house, and extra space for guest in the summers back in the early 70's. The cabin has been added on to over the years, but originally it was a one room hunting shack. The front bedroom was added on at some point, and it had a pot-belly stove in that room. Once the stove was removed, this wonderful old tin was put on the ceiling to cover the hole.
We have not remodeled this room, and this is still on the ceiling. When we purchased the cabin 10 years ago, I almost demanded my husband to remove it and patch the ceiling. I am really glad I did not do that. I like the little tin. When we get to this bedroom in our remodel endeavours, I will save this little piece of history. It is really a nice treasure.
I tried to take a close-up of the painted tin plate, but I was having a hard time looking up at the ceiling and trying to take a picture at the same time. Some days, it's hard to multi-task.
The last thing I have to share this week is the light fixture in the same front bedroom. I am always intrigued at old light fixtures, this one is no exception. It is a soft pinkish rose color, with a little clear crystal looking ball in the center. I really like this light. I am sure I will try and find something a little more rustic, when it is time for the remodel of this room, but I think I will keep this light. It really holds a lot of charm.
I started not to take a picture of this light fixture, thinking you would think I had lost my mind showing it. But in all honesty, I think it qualifies for VTT.
Sorry, the photo is not so great, I should have tried a little harder to get the shot centered. I guess that is what too much fresh air does for you. LOL
