One of my long time friends found the sweetest planter at an estate sale. I had a fit over it when I saw it! Now, I go to lots of estate sales, and I have never seen one of these. She said it was there on the last day too. Oh. my.

She dropped by my house shortly after me seeing it and gave it to me as a gift. I was so excited, and thrilled she wanted me to have it. I adore it and am so thankful to have it!

It is stamped Japan on all of the four pieces. It is a wonderful addition to all my doxie treasures.

Here it is with all my other little dogs. No, your eyes are not playing tricks on you. Truth of the matter is, when I took the photo, I discovered a bit of dust on the back of the shelves, and did not want to retake the photo. Call it lazy....but I sure wanted to try and "hide" the dust. Truth. You will just have to use your imagination.

Here is my sweet Sophie.....exactly where she does not belong. On The Table. But I snapped a picture of her anyway...she just wanted to smell the flowers!

Happy Vintage Thingie Thursday!

Dora and a Trip to the 24 Hour Vet Clinic

If I was to say Dora was a handful, that would be an understatement. Totally. This past week, she has really gotten herself in a lot of trouble. The first of the week she somehow managed to get out of the yard and I had to RUN almost a block away after I discovered her missing to get her. I say run as I panicked and was so afraid she'd run into the street and get hit by a car or someone would pick her up off the street and keep her....yea, no treats that day!

The end of the week, which included the weekend, did not get much better in regards to her antics. Sunday, she had a grand time digging in the dirt and hunting geckos, lizards, grasshoppers or anything else she could get stirred up and moving. It was after she came in and had a nap in her favorite chair, I knew we had a problem. She woke up and her eyes were swollen shut, and she was pawing at them.

Oh, and did I mention, it was Sunday night, so that means the only vet open is the 24 hour emergency vet who has outlandish prices for weekend care. No matter, we went.....me, I was a total mess.....Dora, was not too sure herself......

Here she is sitting in my lap listening at the talking outside the door. The doctor came in and said they were going to do an eye flush, and put a stain in her eyes to make sure she had not scratched her eyes.

This is her, before they took her back to do the procedure....you can see a little bit of her eye that was not looking too good. Luckily, they found no scratches, and flushed all the DIRT out of her eyes and gave me some drops to keep in her eyes for the next ten days....then presented me with a bill which was crazy expensive. Oh, well...it's just money...and really, what else was there to do???

Apparently, I am not the only one worn out not only from the weekend, but this ordeal as well.....Dora let me put her eye drops in and she is sleeping away in her favorite chair with her favorite blankets. From the looks of this picture, she looks so innocent and helpless. Please.....that is the farthermost thing from the truth.  I love this dog to pieces....just wish she did not cause so much grey hairs on my head!! One thing is for sure, it is never a dull moment around here!

Have a great Monday, thankfully, I am able to go to work today so I can rest!!

The Dog Days of a Rainy Week

This week started out very wet here at our place. We are really glad for the rain, but some of my family members are glad they finally have a good excuse for their loafing around all the time.

Dora and Sophie have pretty much taken this quilt over and have not gotten off the bed. When I ask them if they want to go outside, they pretty much just look at me through squinted eyes like I am nuts. In all honesty, if I had a choice, I'd be in direct competition with these two and stay wrapped up, snug as a bug all day too!

Secret Santa Soiree 2013 signups are in full swing. Follow THIS LINK to the signup post and THIS LINK for all the information about the swap. Swap closes on October 31st.

Have a great day.....hope you are enjoying the weather in your area, I myself would enjoy it a bit more if I had a little more "rest" time! You don't have to worry, Sophie and Dora have their day all planned out. ahem.......

When Dogs Get Mad ~ Dora Especially

You guys know I have four dachshunds. That is no surprise, but what you may not know is the fact that these four are used to getting their way....most of the time.

Sunday afternoon, I was working on finishing up a quilt and had it spread out on the living room floor. All four of my dogs know they are supposed to stay off the quilts when I lay them on the floor to work on them. They KNOW the difference in a quilt I am working on and a regular ole blanket laying on the floor.

My husband called me outside to help him do something and we closed the doggie door to keep the dogs inside as we had the side gate to our backyard open and did not want the dogs to get out.

That was not a popular choice for the dogs, in fact they were really not happy to be left indoors while we were outside. Dora especially. Dora is a toot, and knows how to really show you her displeasure. Believe me, she gets her point across.

When I walked back inside after helping my husband, I headed back to the living room to finish with the quilt I was working on.....and this is what I was greeted with.....

Dora had gone to the laundry room and picked up my husband's dirty sock off of the floor and plopped it right down in the middle of that quilt and just stood there looking at me. Just the look on her face alone speaks volumes. (glad I had my phone in my hand so get a picture)

It was as if she was saying...."yes, I did that because  I wanted to go outside with you guys and I got mad at you for a minute, now what are you going to do about it."

Sometimes, I swear the dogs are becoming smarter than we are. Do your dogs let you know when they are mad? Dora has no problem with it....at all!

.....and if you are wondering what I did about these antics....I just opened the doggie door and let the dogs out, I mean after all, that is what they wanted to begin with. ahem.

Did Your Dachshund Rescue YOU???

Do you ever feel like you were rescued by our Dachshund instead of it being you who rescued them? I do most certainly feel that way about mine.

With Sophie being the first one, I wrote about that very thing HERE and absolutely believe she did in fact rescue me from a very dark place. Of course, each and every one of them hold a special place, but Sophie, was the first, and well, she really is my heart.

Sophie, Dora, Bailey and Sammie......they all rescued their momma in one way or another.

Dusty Puddles Rescue is having a fundraiser by selling these adorable shirts you see above, that any dachshund lover would love. The goal is to sell 100 which, by the way they are almost there, but I have a feeling we can do better than that and smash that goal!! I already have ordered mine, and can't wait to get it!!

Follow the link HERE to purchase you perfect Doxie T-shirt and help a good cause while you are at it!!

Help save the lives of more dachshunds in need of being rescued from shelters,  so their new owners can feel the love and know it was the dog who actually rescued them after all.

Oh, The Stresses of Laundry Day

During the summer months I really enjoy hanging my laundry out on the clothes line to dry in the sun. There is seriously nothing like the smell of clothes fresh off the line during the summer months.

Last week, I decided I needed to do one more load which involved some very much loved yet smelly toys. I emptied all the dog toys from their bin and tossed them into the washer and then hung them out on the line to dry.

In the hundred plus degree heat, it did not take them long to dry. In fact, I am quiet sure less time to dry than it would have taken in the clothes dryer. However.....that task proved to be a bit of torture for one small dog.

Sammie has been a toy lover since he came to live with us. The others "might" play every once in a while with a toy, but mostly it is Sammie that has one, or two toys with him most of the time. He was NOT happy when he discovered I had hung his most favorite toys on the clothes line to dry.

In fact, he sat at the sliding glass door "guarding" his toys from the inside. Poor thing, he was not a happy camper.

And as soon as I went to retrieve the clothes and his toys, he was just beside himself....he hopped up in the clothes basket like he was greeting his long lost friends after months of departure from each other. This poor puppy was clearly stressed that afternoon when his favorite toys were out of reach hanging high on the clothesline.

I actually thought I was going to have to carry him into the house atop this pile of clothes and "friends"  when I was taking them into the house.

Oh, the woes of laundry day, especially when it involves the dog's laundry!

Bathing Brute and Beauties!

After all the rain last week.....

These four were mighty happy to see the sun! They think they are a bunch of bathing beauties...well, Sammy may think he is a little macho to be called a beauty....I call him a brute!

Hope your day is sunny in your neck of the woods!

The Perfect Christmas Card.....or NOT

I see perfect Christmas cards all over the internet...you know the ones like this one below...lots of dogs, all posing perfectly for the camera!

This is just picture perfect, not a dog hair out of place!! That is just not reality at my house....welcome to my little fiasco in trying to capture four dachshunds decked out in Holiday garb......not so great, trust me!

First, I put the reindeer horns on Sammie....You would have thought he was being tortured! He slouched down to the floor and just ducked his head.....it was a no go!

So I tried them on Bailey. She froze in the chair under the dog blankets and would. not. move. It was like if she just sat still, I might not see her and it would all go away. Forget trying to get her to sit next to another dog...nope. Not. going. to. happen.

While the first two were acting up with all their shenanigans, Dora and Sophie sat in the chair waiting for Bailey and Sammie to get with the program. Dora likes to dress up most of all out of all the dachshunds we have, so she was eager without any suggestions of treats. Sophie...just goes with the flow. All I needed to do was to get the two younger ones on board, and I was sure to be on my way to the perfect Christmas card.

So I put the bells and the antlers on Sammie....He was looking mighty spiffy and rather regal in his get up....only problem was...he wants to be the star of his own show and does not want to share the spot light with any other.

I tried to convince him he needed to sit with Sophie and Dora, and he had enough of that talk......

Next thing I know...he is trying to rip the jingle bells into shreds and toss them in the air. Just look at the determined face here....like he knows he can kill it if he tries hard enough. Long forgotten are the reindeer antlers. And by this time, not a dog one was interested in a treat.....they wanted the Santa garb off and put away.......

So my perfect Christmas card with four perfectly dressed dogs, with not a dog hair out of place just does not seem to be happening this year. Sophie and Dora were real troopers and sat at attention, well almost attention with the mention of a cheese bite in the works. But what you don't see is Bailey hiding under the covers and Sammie trying to just get the cheese bite and run.........There goes my perfect Christmas card......or maybe it is perfect....in a not so perfect kind of way....pretty much seems to be the way things go around here!

Oh, and did I mention, the whole time this was taking place, I had to listen to my husband sound off that "This is just not going to work......."

Seriously......I really don't give up that easily.....tomorrow is another day and treats make a dog's world go around!

Happy Thanksgiving

I'd like to wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving! I don't have a Vintage Thingie Post this week...there was just not enough time to get everything done, so the blog suffered. I'll be back next week.

I thought I'd leave you with a little dachshund humor...

Happy Thanksgiving....did someone mention TURKEY????

You can better believe there will be a lot of this as you see below going on at my house....there are only three in the photo and you all know I have four dachshunds, I'd wager a small bet that the missing one from the photo is out of  camera shot trying to figure out a way onto the cabinet!

Both of these photos were found online....thought they were so cute!! See ya next week! Have a safe and joyful holiday.

How Will I Fill That Extra Hour????

Dachshunds....they serve as alarm clocks without ever having to actually set a clock. With the time change...I had an extra hour to sleep and get some rest before I started my day.....

My two dachshunds, Bailey and Sammie however did not see it that way and promptly woke me up at 4:15am. Nice.....Thanks so much! Once I am awake, I might as well just get up!!

So.....I had decided to fill that extra hour with a worthy effort I had committed to earlier in the week.

I read about a take action project to help with some comfort for Hurricane Sandy victims via Lane's Blog. Seems Erin from My Patchwork Life has decided to TAKE ACTION and make some quilts to send to the devastated East Coast. This is fantastic, and knowing I'd love to do something, but with time always a factor and sewing these days, I thought making a few blocks was doable.

She is asking for SIMPLE disappearing 4 patch blocks, they are a large block version and quick and easy to make! Erin requested florals and a solid or a fabric that reads a solid. Click HERE to see her post about the blocks.

So at 4:30am I decided to cut the blocks and will get them sewn together and off to Erin early this week. One hour....an extra hour at that, and what a difference I can make with a few simple blocks. What better way to spend that extra 60 minutes? I certainly feel better about this project than I would cleaning bathrooms during that hour!

Oh...and incase you are wondering what else was going on while I was cutting fabric at the wee early morning hours.....maybe you thought there were games of tag, or fetch with dog toys, or exploring what could be lurking in the back yard by two little dogs....

Not a chance....in fact...it was RATHER QUIET as these two early risers must have gotten the message that the time had changed...as they went back to bed...and decided to get some more shut eye!  Imagine that!!!

If you'd like to help in a small way...stop off and visit Erin and sew a couple of blocks today with that extra hour!!! Big impact....small effort......always heart warming!

How Many Days Till The Christmas Season??

I know it sounds crazy, but I had to stop yesterday and figure out how long we have had Sammie living with us. It has only been five months, and that is hard to believe. To me, it seems he has been with us as long as the other three.....he just fits so well with our family!! He is loved beyond his wildest dreams....trust me!

And during this short time that he has been with us, he has become quiet fond of toys. Only one small problem, he does not just like any dog toys...he is obsessed with Santa Dog toys.

We have a bucket FULL and OVERFLOWING with dog toys. Sophie, Dora and Bailey really don't care about them too much, but they are always there in case they decide to play with them. Sammie discovered the bucket of toys and fished out all the Christmas Toys and claimed them for his own.

He is rather protective of his Santa boo-boo. He has to have it when it is time for bed, nap time or when he gets over excited he goes looking for his Santa. Poor Sophie, Dora and Bailey learned rather quickly it was not worth the effort to try and take that toy back.

My only concern with this is that this will be the first Christmas Sammie will be with us. I am already worried about what might await me when I get home from work once the tree goes up and the ornaments go on the tree. Suddenly in the eyes of a very young, little dog, Santa invades the house and he is in Santa Heaven and ready to rumble.

I am counting the days till the holiday season....not in anticipation of all the decorating that goes with the season but in the thought of maybe regretfully deciding against a tree this year.

Never the less....it will be interesting I am sure!!

The Unhappy Dachshund

Sammy is not a happy fellow today!! You can see from the picture below he looks to be pouting or sulking in the corner with his head sticking out of the doggie door.

True....is his NOT a happy camper at the moment. The truth of the  matter is, he is not sulking - well, maybe just a little, but in truth he is actually standing guard.....

....because of this!!! His beloved Santa dog had a bath and is drying in the sun on the clothesline.

It just so happens he glanced up and saw him, but his little legs are just too short to reach his beloved friend. Don't think for one minute he is not watching for any sign of something with the idea they want his favorite toy. Nope...just not gonna happen!
