However, I have a couple of cute restaurant mugs to show you. They were a great find at a local thrift store.

Both are marked Homer Laughlin.

I have a couple of pieces of restaurant china in this pattern. I always pick this pattern up no matter what the piece is when I see it!

Vintage Thingie Thursday ~ Adorable Dachshund Planter

Welcome to this weeks segment of Vintage Thingies Thursday. Thursday is the day to showcase your vintage treasures and to share your special things with everyone. If you are visiting and would like to join us, please do. It is very easy!

One of my long time friends found the sweetest planter at an estate sale. I had a fit over it when I saw it! Now, I go to lots of estate sales, and I have never seen one of these. She said it was there on the last day too. Oh. my.

She dropped by my house shortly after me seeing it and gave it to me as a gift. I was so excited, and thrilled she wanted me to have it. I adore it and am so thankful to have it!

It is stamped Japan on all of the four pieces. It is a wonderful addition to all my doxie treasures.

Here it is with all my other little dogs. No, your eyes are not playing tricks on you. Truth of the matter is, when I took the photo, I discovered a bit of dust on the back of the shelves, and did not want to retake the photo. Call it lazy....but I sure wanted to try and "hide" the dust. Truth. You will just have to use your imagination.

Here is my sweet Sophie.....exactly where she does not belong. On The Table. But I snapped a picture of her anyway...she just wanted to smell the flowers!

Happy Vintage Thingie Thursday!

Vintage Thingie Thursday: Vintage Misfit China Ware

Welcome everyone to Vintage Thingies Thursday

If you have a love for vintage things, well....you have come to the right place. We have a really good time each and every week!!!
If you are new to this party, please take the time to
read and follow the instructions for participating in Vintage Thingies Thursday, click HERE. I try and keep things fairly simple, so please make sure you follow the instructions. Please only ONE link per week. Lastly, if you link in, LINK back to my blog, so everyone can see all of the vintage goodies on display that day. If you don't link back here, they won't know who to visit......thanks so much. Lastly, try to make an effort to visit the other participants. I know myself, I get so behind and busy, but this year, I am going to do my best to visit each week.

I have a knack of  being drawn to small little misfit or mismatched china ware when I am browsing thrift shops.

One day, while stopping by my new favorite shop, I spotted a few things on a shelf and all of them were marked .25 cents. About the time I saw them, a lady came down the same isle, looked at the little goodies and looked at the price and stated she thought they might as well throw those types of things in the trash. She proclaimed no one would want them and at .25 cents, they were not worth the tag on the junk,  stuff. She quickly moved on with her buggy........

This little kangaroo salt and pepper shaker is far from being perfect. In fact, one of his ears has been reattached. He was all alone, and I know I have talked before about bringing home orphan salt and pepper shakers. He is cute...even if he is not in perfect condition.

This is a small toothpick holder. I don't know if this is supposed to be a goat, mule or a deer, but I am going to call it a deer for all practical purposes! It is cute and tiny and small.

I also picked up a couple of other items that were perfect in color and design for something I am planning in the future. I simply love when that happens....can't show you today, but will in a few weeks.

Not bad for less than buck!! What happened to that other lady?? Well, as luck would have it, she ended up at the counter right BEHIND me when I was paying. I could see her raised eyebrow from the corner of my eye, but I refused to look her way. Wish I would have had a penny for her thoughts!!!

Happy Vintage Thingie Thursday!!

I have acquired several vintage children's books lately. Some of them, I have not seen in years. They may end up in my Etsy shop but for now, I am enjoying looking through each one and I really love the graphics in the older books.

Tip and Mitten......I remember this book!!

'
Here is the inside of the front cover. I wonder if the new books at schools today still have the place to write your name when the book is assigned to you??

Such sweet graphics in this book!! I like them so much more than the new modern books of today. Happy Vintage Thingie Thursday~~

Vintage Thingie Thursday: Vintage Mid Century Mermaids

Welcome everyone to Vintage Thingies Thursday

If you have a love for vintage things, well....you have come to the right place. We have a really good time each and every week!!!
If you are new to this party, please take the time to
read and follow the instructions for participating in Vintage Thingies Thursday, click HERE. I try and keep things fairly simple, so please make sure you follow the instructions. Please only ONE link per week. Lastly, if you link in, LINK back to my blog, so everyone can see all of the vintage goodies on display that day. I know myself, I get so behind and busy, but this year, I am going to do my best to visit each week.

Last week, I described my shopping frenzy!  I have a confession to make....I went back the next day BEFORE the sale started. ahem. Now...that I got that off my shoulders.......

This little set was sitting on a table with a sticker that said $2.00. I walked out the door with my purchases, and dug and scrounged for $2.00 (which was about all I had left in my purse) and went back in and snapped them up.

You see, I fell in love with their sweet faces. Are these not the sweetest little mermaids you have ever seen?

I know these are for the bathroom, and I am guessing these are mid century decor. I simply LOVE these.....LOVE them!

Each one, still has the original tag on her tail. I wonder if these were just put away and not hung on the wall? I would think that the owner would have taken the tags off of them if she hung them on the wall.

One is in MINT condition, the other one has been in a little accident at some point in her life. However, she must have been very special, as she had been painstakingly put back together with what I can only imagine was with great care. I don't care one bit about any repairs one of these sweet girls have had, it does not take away from how precious they are.

As with so many things I find at estate sales, I wish with all my heart I knew the story. Were these special gifts from a child, a mother or sibling?? Were these purchased and just saved and treasured by the original owner? Did these belong to a special family member? I don't know any of those answers, but I always wonder. The colors are so vivid, and they are so pretty, I feel sure these must have been tucked away for years. What a lucky day and find!!

I decided to look on ebay for vintage mermaids....and oh, please, all....the prices of some of these very types of mid century bath decor will knock your socks off. I was blown away. I did not find another two like these, and wonder what the price would fetch if I listed them on ebay.

Some of my family will be chanting...sell them!!!...but they will have to just relax, because these are not for sale. More times than not, I always hear the same ole thing...sell that junk!!

I have a soft spot for ceramics like these that have the cute little faces on them. These types of ceramics really do remind me of my younger sister, who passed away as a child. It is just something about them that I can not really put a finger on, but they always find a way home with me when I find things like this. I think it is because they are the types of things I know my sister would have liked. She was the girly one, and me, the tomboy of the family. When I saw these, I think that is what drew me to them, and they really remind me of her in some way.

Have you ever in your junkin' trips ran across a pair like this?? They may not be rare at all, but I have never seen any like them, ever. I love these little mermaids and they will have a good home with me!

Happy Vintage Thingie Thursday!! Hope it is warming up in your neck of the woods!

Vintage Thingie Thursday: Vintage Pot Holders - A Shopping Frenzie!!

Welcome everyone to Vintage Thingies Thursday

If you have a love for vintage things, well....you have come to the right place. We have a really good time each and every week!!!

I know myself, I get so behind and busy, but this year, I am going to do my best to visit each week.

I'm LATE.....I know.....please forgive me!! I have a very good reason for being late however! One of my friends called last night and asked if I wanted to go to an estate sale BEFORE the estate sale. SQUEEE.......are you kidding!! So....I am late getting home this evening. The sale is not until Friday, and I seriously think I may have to run back over there tomorrow evening.

Have you seen the after Christmas commercials for the after Christmas sales?......the frantic ladies.....running from one direction to another.....brain on overload at all the great stuff......piles in your hands and arms, then those turn into piles on the floor.......trying not to miss a thing......well, that was me!! I had a car load when I left....and the worst part of this story was my husband was home when I pulled up. ahem.......well.....we will just stop that fun story right there and not talk about when I got home!

I took a quick snap of these cute vintage pot holders, they have not been soaked or cleaned up, but they will be good as new when I am done with them. The lady was a quilter, embroiderer, and her house was full...WAS is the key word here, I brought much of what they had home with me. I left the quilts, but I don't think I can get one of them out of my mind. ALL HAND DONE...and NEVER used....and only $60.00. A Steal....I think I am going back for one of them tomorrow.

Don't you think these are the cutest things? Can't wait to go through all my boxes, some of it will be listed in my etsy shop, but lots of it will be for me. Oh...and did I mention I bought a sewing machine??? Yea....that one was a little hard to explain....poor Steve just went to bed.......I'm not so sure he was happy.

I have always wondered why when I stand in line for over an hour to be the first inside an estate sale, I never find the things I found tonight....I think I have my answer. Friends of friends get to have first shopping rights and get all the good stuff. I hate to think what was already sold today before I got there as I heard the guy talking about a truck load that left early afternoon. Nonetheless, I can not be too greedy.....I hit the mother load and I am super happy about that!! The lady had two sons, and the daughter in laws did not want a thing. I'd love to send them a thank you card!

Special thanks to my friend Joy, for calling me....it was the most fun in a short hour I have had in weeks!

Have a great Vintage Thingie Thursday.

Vintage Thingie Thursday: Vintage Salad Bowl DIY Inspiration

Welcome everyone to Vintage Thingies Thursday

I know myself, I get so behind and busy, but this year, I am going to do my best to visit each week.

Inspiration can be anywhere....especially on the isles of a thrift store, or a goodwill! Does anyone remember these salad bowl sets from the late 60's or early 70's??

I think my grandma had a set that was similar to these, but the shape was a bit different. I have seen these on the shelves at local thrift stores and goodwill stores but have left them there for someone else.

If I tell you I have looked a dozen times, it might mean I have looked a couple dozen times for some of these bowls. Do I want to serve salad out of them?? Why  no.....I don't......

I want to paint them and turn them into mushrooms for my flower bed! Just look at how cute these are!!! I saved this photo some time last year in hopes I'd find some cheap salad bowls to paint and DIY this crafty idea in my own garden.

So far.....nothing! Have you seen these types of bowls while you are out thrifting?? I am still on the look.....and spring is coming so I better get lucky soon!

Happy Vintage Thingie Thursday!!

Vintage Thingie Thursday: Vintage Children Christmas Books

Welcome everyone to Vintage Thingies Thursday

If you have a love for vintage things, well....you have come to the right place. We have a really good time each and every week!!!

Please only ONE link per week. Lastly, if you link in, LINK back to my blog, so everyone can see all of the vintage goodies on display that day. If you don't link back here, they won't know who to visit......thanks so much.

A few weeks ago, I was able to stop in at one of my favorite thrift stores. I was about to leave when I stopped at the glass case in the front and spotted three children Christmas books. I was sure they price would be out of my budget, but I decided to ask anyway.

Turns out, these were $1.00 each. Can you believe it?? Three dollars for these fantastic books.

Now, let me be clear, they are not in perfect condition, by any means. Years ago, that would have been a deal breaker, as I used to think for them to be of value they needed to be in pristine condition. Not so much these days...if I like them, I don't really care too much about the condition.

The graphics are just precious.....and it seems someplace far in the back of my mind, I remember a Christmas book from my childhood that had the fuzzy feeling Santa, just like this one has.

The photos on all of these books are just adorable, and sweet vintage graphics.

As you can see, this book was very much loved. It still holds lots of charm in my eyes.

These pages are definitely a memory I hold dear, I am not sure if we had this same book, or a newer version of the book, but I remember this page as the dad looking out the window was always a thing that stood out to me.

Love the sweet Santa faces in both of these books.

I have never seen this one before, ever. It really is a strange sort of book, but I could not leave it behind.

look at the copyright...no wonder I don't recall ever seeing it.

The story is about toys coming to life, and the pictures appear to be still photos of different toys, and it just is something I have never seen before.

These three books are perfect for displaying with my Christmas decor. I have them in my guest bathroom on the magazine rack, they look cute and festive, and it matters not to me that they are not perfect and well loved. I am thrilled with this find, and treasure them just as they are!

Happy Vintage Thingie Thursday!!

Back in the 1980's I ordered this advent calendar through a magazine. If there was ever a time I wish I had ordered two of them, this would be one of those times. This has been a favorite when my kids were growing up and it still is today.

The tree has magnetic dots and for each day, a Christmas theme character is placed on the tree from being retrieved from the boxes.

I used to notice once I placed the little pieces in the boxes, most times, they were rearranged by my daughter. I never paid much attention to it until later years as her logic in the order they were placed on the tree.

In her mind, Santa would be the last on the tree, as that was the day Santa came....smart kid I raised, I tell ya, I never thought of it like that!

The 5th of the month is the angel. Why the angel on the 5th? Well, that is my daughters birthday and she always wanted the angel on the tree on her day...December 5th. I think I remember putting the snowman in the #5 box, but she always changed it!

With the kids grown, and gone, my husband and I still place the little pieces on the tree during the month of December. One day, this will belong to one of my kids, and passed down to the grand kids.

And in case you are wondering, we have never lost a single piece to this advent calendar. I keep it stored inside the house during the year to keep it from aging too much. You can tell it has been well loved, and gently taken care of to be in the shape it is in today. A real treasure...and since it is over 25 years old....a real vintage treasures.
