This week, I want to share some more of my vintage Valentine's Day items that I think are so sweet. I picked up this Valentines planter at an estate sale last summer. I love the heart shape and the cupids.
Can you just imagine a beautiful bunch of flowers being delivered in this cute little planter? I think carnations or roses would look so cute! But I am partial to carnations and think those would have looked best! The bottom has a silver and black sticker that says B\R made in Japan.
Last week, you may recall some of my valentines from my childhood I posted and wrote about. This week I want to show you a couple more I found. These two are from my mom and my grandparents. Notice the style of dress the young girl is sporting....does this not scream 70's to you?
Here is the inside of the card from my grandparents. I got tickled at this when I looked at it. I know my grandmother signed the card, and at first glance, you would think she had my grandfather sign the card too, notice the different color ink...but when I looked more closely, I am almost certain, she signed his name instead of my papaw signing the card. That just struck me as a funny thing that I know as a child I never noticed! My memaw has been gone for 21 years and I miss her desperately, but she is still bringing a smile to my heart...and it just does not get any better than that.
Lastly, I want to share a few of the vintage Avon pins I have. My mom was an Avon representative when we were younger and she always gave us pins on special occasions. These very well could have been a gift at Valentines. These date back to the early 70's. Some of them still have the fragrance inside. I have several of these, but these are the one's I think are so cute.
Notice the little pink dish? I purchased that at an estate sale for 15 cents. It has a few little spots that almost look like rust spots, but I thought it was still very cute. I really like the floral design.
I hope you enjoyed looking at these little Valentine inspired items this week. Have a great week everyone and I will look forward to visiting you and looking at all of your vintage treasures. See ya' next week.
awww those are so sweet!
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed your post this evening. The cute story about your grandma and papa is so sweet. I love the little planter and I agree carnations would be so pretty. Happy Valentine's Day!
ReplyDeleteSorry, um am I missing something? The links I"m visiting this week for VTT all have posts on Works for me Wednesday?
ReplyDeleteReally great treasures. I love those pins. I am so conflicted because I try to de-clutter while bemoaning things I got rid of that I wish I still had.

I just loved how you wrote about your grandparents. Your valentines collection is sweet because they were for you.
ReplyDeleteHappy Valentine's Day.
Cute Valentines. Vintage Valentines is such a good idea. I have some in my scrapbook. Maybe next year I'll post some of them. Maybe I won't wait until next year. Who knows.

ReplyDeleteLove, Ann
I love the Avon pins. I forgot that I had some of them.
ReplyDeleteYou have so many great things this week, Suzanne! I kick myself all the time for misplacing my Avon pins. They're probably somewhere in my parents' house just waiting to be unearthed by archaeologists!
ReplyDeleteSomething seems to be off with mr Linky as all the links for VT are identical with your post below for Love on Wednesday. I linked in to VT but I'm also showing up on Love on Wednesday (same number).

ReplyDeletetreasures this week. Love those
Avon pins & the 1970's valentines!
HMMM...Only a couple of these posts are for VTT. I think I'm in the right place.
ReplyDeleteSuch wonderful treasures! I remember those little Avon pins. My mom would get them for me and I used to use up all the perfume inside. It would drive her nuts because I'd apply some, and then keep reapplying, lol!
ReplyDeleteI had completely forgotten about the Avon pins! What a nice suprise when I saw them. Somewhere I have that calico cat pin. I'll not sleep until I find it. You have created a monster! Thanks for hosting.
ReplyDeleteOh, you have some lovely items! I especially like the 70s valentines. I remember wearing those cool bell bottoms!!
ReplyDeleteNot sure what is going on with Mr. Linky. My name is listed twice. First one is from Love on Wednesday. #24 Rosie is for Vintage Thingies.
ReplyDeleteI love all your vintage valentine delights :)
ReplyDeleteHappy Valentine's Day! I love the little Avon pins.
ReplyDeleteOM gosh I have never seen these, obviously Avon in Australia must have been a bit different.
ReplyDeleteCool that your mom saved them all for you!
Roslyn
I was thinking about those pins the other day--glad to see them again---brought back memories---also was glad to see the valentine card but you should have showed the inside too because reading the outside left one wondering what the inside said---you are still my valentine today----much love to you !!!
ReplyDeleteThe card from your grandparents is quite special.
ReplyDeleteYou put Mr. Linky up too quickly, and you have yesterday's list mixed up with today's.
How funny about the signature , I do the same thing.
ReplyDeleteI've never seen the little Avon pins before, those are sweet.
I think I had that mouse! You are always posting about something I forgot I had!
ReplyDeleteWoohoo! I made it for another Thursday....this is fun! I love your post this week...have a great Valentine's Day!!1
ReplyDeleteWow, it's only 9:15 and I'm still #32 - these girls are on the ball!
ReplyDeleteI love that little planter - so cute! My mom was an Avon rep in the early 60's - loved to play with the lipstick samples!

ReplyDeleteI remember those Avon pins with the smell good stuff inside...I haven't seen one in years! I love your Valentine's cards...especially the one from your grandparents. So sweet!
Be sure to sign up for my giveaway...you'll find it at the bottom of yesterday's post!
Oh, I forgot to ask - regarding the card from your mom - "Everyone thought you'd turn out fine . . . ". Well, did you? LOL!
ReplyDeleteI love the flared pants on the girl on the card. It's so great you've saved these cards and can look at them now. That kitty pin looks really familiar to me. I wonder if someone I knew had one.
ReplyDeleteI'm no expert but I think your grandpa signed that card. Look at the letters. Quite a few are different and connected differently.
ReplyDeleteSuch a pretty post.
Happy Valentine's Day
Hi Suzanne...you were so smart to save your old Valentines...just look how they have warmed your heart with memories! Sweet...

ReplyDeleteIsn't is just so precious to have items with the handwriting of people we love?
ReplyDeleteKathy b
oh! i totally had that cat avon pin. i think it had perfume in it, right?
ReplyDeleteIsn't it funny to think that the 70s are "vintage"! The bell bottom pants give it away immediately!
ReplyDeleteSo glad you saved the card from your grandma and grandpa, and shared the funny story of the signatures. My dear grandma (we were very close) has also been gone 20 years, and I still miss her, but remembering the fun times we had together makes my heart happy! Hope yours is very happy this Valentine's Day!!
P.S. I like the idea of this vintage thingies...will try to join up with you all when I can.
Have a Happy Valentines Day!
ReplyDeleteAfter my stop at Coloradolady's, I traveled on down the vintage road. I actually took the time to visit each of the other bloggers. A very interesting journey through time, and most enjoyable.
ReplyDeleteThose pins are so cute. I was an Avon lady from my junior year in college up until recently. But our gifts are quite so cute anymore. Darn.
