Welcome everyone to Vintage Thingies Thursday. If you have a love for vintage things, well....you have come to the right place. We have a "dog-gone" good time each and every week!!!
If you are new to this party, please take the time to read and follow the instructions for participating in Vintage Thingies Thursday, click HERE. I try and keep things fairly simple, so please make sure you follow the instructions. Please only ONE link per week. Lastly, if you link in, LINK back to my blog, so everyone can see all of the vintage goodies being showed that day. If you don't link back here, they won't know who to visit......thanks so much.
By now I am sure you are aware of the loss of our dear blogging friend CC last week. It has been a very sad shock to all who loved this sweet lady. We will surely miss her here on Vintage Thingie Thursday. CC always had a kind word and encouragement for everyone she visited and her post were always so fun and interesting.
It was no secret CC loved Sunbonnet Sue and she shared her patterns with so many across the globe. It was always a real treat to anticipate her post and see what sweet Sue's were going to be on display that week. CC had been participating in Vintage Thingie Thursday for over a year and a half. She was ever faithful to have a delightful post and something to share each week. CC my Sunbonnet Sue friend, you will be so very missed.
So in honor of CC....this post is about some Sunbonnet Sue things, I had been saving for her return......I will never see anything that has Sunbonnet Sue on it that I will not think of our sweet friend. Always.
This is a very old quilt. The quilt top was made by my grandmother's mother. My Great-grandmother, whom I never knew. My memaw had this quilt top for years along with a couple of others. She gave them to my mother who had her step mom quilt them. I have always loved this quilt and it has always been one of my favorites.
I actually had this stored, and had forgotten where it was. It was in a cedar chest full of a couple of other quilts along with a lifetime of treasures.
This dress was always my favorite as a child. I love all the fabrics in this quilt, but for some reason, this one always held a real interest for me.
One block at the top of the quilt does have some damage. I hope to get this repaired. I am not sure I could do it myself so I may have to find someone who specializes in repairing antique quilts. I have to say this is so ultra soft, all the fabrics are as soft as butter and I worry a repair will not blend in with the feel of the quilt. Any suggestions from an authority out there would be helpful and appreciated.
I also have these two quilt swatches in a Sunbonnet Sue pattern. I plan to turn these into pillows at some point, I think they are super cute. I think I picked these up at Canton Trade Days a few years ago....and yes, they are still waiting to be turned into something useful.....ahem.
Now, I hope you remember the post about this quilt. Click here to refresh your memory. I had spent a lot of time thinking about this quilt and decided I needed to pass it on to CC. I had this packaged, boxed and ready to go when the news came of her passing. I felt so bad that I had not gotten this in the mail weeks before hand. I just knew in my heart that CC would have loved and treasured this quilt.
So, in honor of our sweet friend, I am going to host a giveaway for this quilt.
CC loved giveaways and she held them quiet frequently on her blog. In fact, I was the lucky winner of one of her aprons. I just feel in my heart that this would make our sweet friend happy, and in passing on this Sunbonnet Sue quilt to a blogging friend, the love of Sunbonnet Sue will keep on going.
Just leave a comment to this post and I will announce the winner next week on Vintage Thingie Thursday. There are no restrictions on mailing, anyone worldwide is eligible. You don't have to have a blog to enter...just leave a comment to this post or to the facebook post. If you feel like passing on the information about this giveaway on your blog and or facebook, leave me a separate comment for each that you have done that and I it will get you an extra entry for each one.
I hope to have lots of support for this giveaway in honor of our sweet friend. I will let Random Generator choose the winner....and hope the powers to be have a hand in choosing the lucky winner.
Have a great weekend everyone....I have missed you guys....thanks for being patient and faithful in keeping VTT going in my absence. It was hard not to be here during my break.....I missed you and your treasures. It is good to be back in the swing of things.

What a loyal and kind friend you are!! You DO know your kindness and friendship gave CC worlds of happiness, more even that the receiving and having of that gorgeous quilt would have done.
ReplyDeleteHi Suzanne, Thanks for hosting today. I luv the quilts they are all so pretty. We have just two of the sunshine bonnet quilts. Thanks for sharing....Julian
ReplyDeleteSuzanne,
ReplyDeleteThat little quilt from your Great Grandmother is a treasure, for sure! I emailed you my picture earlier as an attachment. Thanks so much for helping me link up!
Robin
Oh, Suzanne...What a nice tribute to CC. She would have squealed with delight over that quilt. Yes, she will be missed...
ReplyDeleteI was so very sorry to read about CC, and I thought the post on her blog written by her family was quite moving. What a lovely idea to give away the quilt - I am sure she would approve whole-heartedly!
ReplyDeleteYou have some beautiful Sunbonnet Sues, Suzanne! The one made by your great grandma is a true delight. They all look dressed for the ball. :-)
ReplyDeleteYou've chosen a very sweet way to honor CC. I'm sure she would heartily approve.
You have put me back into a shock wave with this quilt. I never knew sister had such a quilt. I never ceased to be surprised at what I learn about my family every week. Why do you go to Goodwill and thrift stores, when you have more treasures stashed than they do. You did a great job as usual on your tribute to CC. She would have been so proud.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely giveaway. Your family quilt is beautiful, what an incredible treasure. I remember your post very well about this quilt, its such a great tribute for you to give this away in CC's memory.
ReplyDeleteSo very nice of you to have this give away in her honor. She was lucky to have you as a friend. It's great that her family posted on her blog as a farewell and to let everyone know. They valued what she did and appreciated what it meant to her. She would have been thrilled about your giveaway. A wonderful gesture from you to a good friend.
ReplyDeleteSuzanne...What a lovely thing you are doing in memory of your dear, dear friend. It is so sad she passed away before you could send it to her. The quilt is absolutely beautiful and so full of sentimentality....a family treasure. My thoughts are with you as you grieve your loss. The story you shared with us about the history of the quilt and your love of it was wonderful. Thank you for letting us all come into your life. We, too, share your sadness.
ReplyDeleteFondly,
Genie
Suzanne this post has me crying (again) when I think about our sweet CC!! I love your Sunbonnet Sue's! I am so moved by your giveaway of that quilt and I agree CC would love to have it go to someone who will love and treasure it! I am honored to be a part of this post!
ReplyDeleteSuzanne...what a lovely giveaway in CC's honor. Your g-gma's SBS's are FABULOUS!!
ReplyDeleteThank you for hosting each week. I don't always get to post but I always check out all the great posts here :)
Blessings!
Gail
What a lovely tribute to a friend. I didn't know her well but she did distinguish herself with Sunbonnet Sue. Still rather shocking news.
ReplyDeleteA lovely tribute to your blogging friend. My advice on your quilt repair is to find a university with a fabric/texile program. They will know of someone who can safely and correctly repair your heirloom. Or call your county extension office and ask them who on a state level you should contact concerning restoration of an antique quilt. Good Luck.
ReplyDeleteI love both of your Sunbonnet quilts.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful tribute to do for your blogging friend. I'm sure she is looking down from Heaven and smiling. I didn't know her but I did read a tribute post from another blogger and I went and took a look at her blog. It was beautiful.
ReplyDeleteYour quilts are just so beautiful! I do hope that you are able to get your family heirloom repaired.
Hugs,
Angela
This is such a wonderful tribute to CC.
ReplyDeleteI will always think of her whenever I see Sunbonnet Sue.
I'm glad you posted this
Oh, Suzanne! I had no idea about CC. My heart is broken for her family.
ReplyDeleteShe and I had become blogging buddies. And though we had never met in person, through our blogs and e-mail exchanges, we had become friends.
She was the winner of my last big giveaway and thanked me several times for all the goodies she won. She will be missed.
Blessings,
Liz @ the Brambleberry Cottage

That is such a sweet quilt.. And you are such a wonderful person to have this giveaway in CC's memory. I know you must be very sad to lose your friend. I remember when you blogged about finding the quilt at GW and I loved the bright cheerful colors then! I treasure the quilts given to me by my great grandmother and would love to add this one to my collection. I have several little people in my life that would love cuddling in it's warmth.
ReplyDeleteAnd I just added a link to your giveaway on my post.
ReplyDeleteSuzanne..
ReplyDeleteI adored Sunbonnet Sue as a child..
Would love having this darling quilt..
thanks for your generosity!
warmest hugs..
Loui♥
I loveloveLOVE that quilt, and honestly, it reminds me of my grandma. She's an avid quilter, something I'm totally not, yet aspire to be one day, when I'm not busy doing other things, like raising rambunctious boys.
ReplyDeleteHow awesome of you to give the quilt away in CC's honor!
I would love to be entered. I don't have a blog, but I certainly love to read them. I live in UK and hope that is OK, like you said. This is a great gift and a wonderful tribute to a lady who gave the world wonderful patterns of Sunbonnet Sue.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear about your friend. It sounds like she was a wonderful person, and it takes one to know one :) This quilt is adorable and I think it would look perfect on my daughter's bed :)
ReplyDeleteYour post is such an inspiring tribute to CC, so many other SBS posts in the links today. Your quilt from your great-grandmother is such a beauty, I hope you will find good help to repair the damaged block.
ReplyDeleteHow special is it to have a quilt made by your great grandmother. It is just lovely. Unfortunately, I am the first quilter (that I know of) in our family. Well at least my great grandchildren will hopefully one day appreciate one of their great grandmother's quilts!
ReplyDeleteI didn't know CC, but she sounds like a wonderful person and friend. My deepest sympathy for your loss. Your generosity in offering this quilt is overwhelming. If I were lucky enough to win, I would treasure it forever.
ReplyDeleteMany thanks for the opportunity.
Warmly,
Marilyn
I'm so glad you showed a Sunbonnet Sue quilt and I see other people have to, so I've reposted my Bonnet girl coverlet. CC would have been delighted with all the SS and cousins showing up today on VTT. She will be missed.
ReplyDeleteYour Greatgrandmother's quilt is wonderful...I'll e-mail you with my ideas of how to repair it. You're lucky its at the corner so nothing super major must be done and I think you can do it-you're a whiz you know.
What a lovely give away!
What a beautiful quilt and such a wonderful way to honor CC. Have a Blessed Week. Debbie
ReplyDeleteOh Suzanne, I'm in tears for this beautiful post, and for this gesture to give this beautiful quilt away in loving memory of CC!.. Please count me in for this giveaway. I'm crossing my fingers, of course, but I know, whoever wins it, that ANY one who loved CC, will love and cherish this beautiful quilt, and I would be happy for them!.. Who knows, I'd like to think that maybe CC would be close by, in spirit, as I try to make one myself someday! ~tina
ReplyDeleteHi again... I have posted this giveaway on my right side bar... Thanks again! ~tina
ReplyDeleteWhat a great way to honor your friend. What a beautiful quilt. Please enter me in your giveaway.I would treasure it dearly if I win but know that whoever wins it will too.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear about CC. What a wonderful friend to have such a tribute!
ReplyDeleteThis was such a serendipitous visit and what a beautiful quilt. Sunbonnet Sue has always been a love of my life, she appears to be such a feisty little girl, ready to go anywhere, to do anything... but always sensible, one can never be too young to take care of one's skin, hence the ever present bonnet! may her wanderings be far and pleasant and may the lilt in her walk bring joy to all who meet her.
ReplyDeleteMinnie
Love your blog and I'm sorry to hear about the death of your blog friend CC. What a sweet idea to honor her life.

What a wonderful tribute to CC. You are a dear and generous soul, that is so very sweet of you.
I've posted a little Sunbonnet Sue miniature quilt that my mom made in honor of CC.
Thank you again for hosting VTT and being such a kind and dear soul,

ReplyDeleteYou are so generous Suzanne. I think CC would have enjoyed your gesture very much. I remember the story of the quilt and how much you loved it. I love the beautiful southern ladies in the quilt your great grandmother made too. So much love and so much history in that beautiful piece.
