This week, I am going to post a "Old Time" Remedy for a bad cough....I did have to try this out and it works. I am sorta not feeling too good this week, so I am totally cheating on my post. Hopefully, I will be feeling better next week.
VICKS Vapor Rub - INTERESTING
During a lecture on Essential Oils, they told us how the foot soles can absorb oils. Their example: Put garlic on your feet and within 20 minutes you can 'taste' it.
Some of us have used Vicks VapoRub for years for everything from chapped lips to sore toes and many body parts in between. But I've never heard of this. And don't laugh, it works 100% of the time, although the scientists who discovered it aren't sure why. To stop night time coughing in a child (or adult as I found out
personally), put Vicks VapoRub generously on the soles of your feet, cover with socks, and the heavy, deep coughing will stop in about 5 minutes and stay stopped for many, many hours of relief.
Works 100% of the time and is more effective in children than even very strong
prescription cough medicines. In addition it is extremely soothing and comforting and they will sleep soundly.
Just happened to tune in A.M. Radio and picked up this guy talking about why cough medicines in kids often do more harm than good, due to the chemicals in them This method of using Vicks VapoRub on the soles of the feet was found to be more effective than prescribed medicines for children at bed time. In addition it seems to have a soothing and calming effect on sick children who then went on to sleep soundly.
I have tried this myself and can attest that it works and unbelievably well. I have had a persistent dry cough that is worse at night, I decided what did I have to lose, so I tried it, and after about 5 minutes, the coughing stopped and did not return...all night.
If you have grandchildren, pass this on. If you end up sick, try it yourself and you will be amazed at how it works.
DON'T SHUN THIS ONE.. TRY IT THE NEXT TIME YOU GET A BAD COLD. THE ONLY THING YOU CAN LOSE IS YOUR COUGH..

This is really interesting. I love Vicks for colds but never heard of putting it on my feet!! Maybe I'll give it a try!
ReplyDeleteXO,
Jane
That reminds me of my mother. She used Vicks a lot, but she put it on her chest.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know it would help toenail fungus too.
We have an authority in our family on Vicks. There is nothing it will not cure. I am sure the company is not aware she has proven it to be a miracle worker.
ReplyDeleteI discovered that trick a couple years ago and am always amazed how well it works. My kids love it too - no yucky stuff to take!
ReplyDeleteWow Suzanne, that is amazing! I have never heard that before and my mom was a big believer in Vicks! I hope I remember this the next time someone I know gets a cough. Have a great weekend, Nan
ReplyDeletePS, this is gross but my Great Grandpa ATE Vicks!
Hi Suzanne,
ReplyDeleteOh I remember Vicks Vaporub well, heck I still use it. My mom used to rub it on my chest when I had a cold, and cover it with a piece of flannel. I slept like a baby. I have never heard of putting on your feet though. I will have to remember that. I put it under my nose when I have cold. I love the smell!
Debbie
Sorry that you're feeling under the weather, Suzanne. But your post couldn't be more timely! Hubby has had an aggravating cough he just can't shake. I'll be going after the Vicks tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteBe sure to come by and enter my fantastic year-end giveaway. And I would love to have you join my linky party.

Vicks is the best! I remember my mom using it and curing my colds. And she was a nurse.

This is a great tip. I bought Vicks earlier this year but I found it a bit too strong and I hated the residue it left behind. I will definitely try this out next time I have a cough. Feel better soon!!
ReplyDeleteVERY good to know! I have three little kids and here we are in cough and cold season! I will try!
ReplyDeleteI would much rather have this on my feet than mu chest. Excellent tip & just in time for flu season! Get well...
ReplyDeletew o w --- Sending get well wishes your way!
ReplyDeleteSuzanne I have heard about this but never tried it. I will tell my daughter. Hope you are feeling better soon!!

This is awesome info I will have to try it the next time one of us has a cough!
ReplyDeleteI wonder how old children need to be before trying this? Jack has a cough that wakes him up and it would be nice to give him some relief. Also, this may be a dumb question, does it burn at all? Haha..like..tingle?
ReplyDeleteVicks Vapor Rub is wonderful my granny, mama and myself have been using it for years and it works every time. You can also rub alcohol on the bottom on kids feet when they are running a fever and it will break the fever have done this on the grandkids and it works every time. Hope your feeling better. Thanks for hosting. Blessings
ReplyDeleteI love Vicks. Used it for years, but never on my feet -- I'll try it next time. I came over to link up for Vintage Thingie Thursday, but it's already closed and it's not even Thursday yet. So bummed. I hope you feel better soon!

I hope you feel better. When I get sick, I'm smothered in Vick's and I'll even go out and buy the little inhaler (though I noticed I will end up using it too much). I hope to catch you on the mend and to participate in the next VTT, since it's closed up!
ReplyDeleteHope you feel beeter soon. Why is the linky list closed? I saw that and wondered if it is now Firday and I lost a day!!!
ReplyDeleteWow! I'm so glad you posted about this. Now I know about the coughing and the toenail fungus. Gonna try it this way for sure. I hope you're feeling better soon.
ReplyDeleteSuzanne, Did you close your link early this week? I have a Christmas Truck to post--come on over and see it. I will try your vicks next time, sounds perfect.

Thanks for the tip! Vicks was the 'go to' medicine when I was little....but never on my feet.
ReplyDeleteHi Suzanne! I am sending you a great big hug for this tip!!! My hubby coughed most of last night and had so much trouble sleeping. Off I go to pick up some Vicks and I will put it on the soles of his feet tonight. Thank you!!!

Oh darnit. I've been running around like a crazy lady getting ready for an art show preview tomorrow and missed it again! Ah well. I'll be back next week! :)
ReplyDeleteAnother great party-I remember vapor rub when my mom used it on my chest-Hope your Holidays are going well!
ReplyDeleteok I had to come find this post again to report back. I told my neighbor about this. She's had a cough for several weeks. She laughed about it. But the next day she tells me it worked. That she had not had a good night in weeks. I filed the info away in my brain.
ReplyDeleteWell last night, My 6 year old daughter who has asthma, woke me up from a sound sleep to the sound of her horrible cough. I am sure the dry air from the heater contributed. It was one of those coughs that meant the poor thing would get no sleep and her chest would be hurting by morning. I remembered your post and ran and got the Vicks. I moved her to my bed for the night and put quickly put it on the soles of her feet as instructed. By the time I was back from putting the Vicks away, I kid you not she was fast asleep and did not cough again all night. Not once. Is it a bit much to call this miraculous? Thank you!!!! Thank you!!!! Thank you!!!! My lil one slept so peacefully thanks to you sharing this. We are grateful :)
Merry Christmas.
