Hello Everyone!! Welcome to this weeks segment of Vintage Thingies Thursday. Thursday is the day to showcase your vintage treasures and to share your special things with everyone. If you are visiting and would like to join us, please do. It is very easy! The instructions are at the bottom of this post.
I have so many unfinished projects....projects in which I have most all the materials to complete a project and turn ordinary things into something wonderful. The only problem is....time. Yep, that is a problem these days. Seriously, if I could afford to quit work and stay home, I think I could stay busy from sun up to sun down working on something for years to come......Glory.....that would be wonderful.
And speaking of time.....since that has been scarce this week, and I am frantically trying to post for this weeks VTT, I sorta took the easy way out and toted my most recent unfinished projects outdoors to took some pictures....hoping that you will not think this post is as lame as I do! Sorry.....I hope next week will be better, but I am not going to promise anything.
I know it is no secret about my love for vintage china. And if you think I broke this adorable plate on my own....Ha! you have another think coming. I love the mosaics done with vintage china, but I think that I would have a problem with one major step in the process....the breaking up a perfectly good plate.
This is my adorable...(to me) end table. I found this little table at Goodwill for $4.00. It really needs to be repainted, which I am going to do...when I find the time, but what I loved about this is the shelf rim at the top of the table.....just perfect for a project I have been wanting to do for awhile now.
I purchased these Mosaic china tiles from a lady off eBay, I just love the design. (These have a protective plastic covering over the china tiles, and the priority tape is really a distraction. Sorry.) But, If I took the plastic off, well....most likely, I would not ever get it back together again to save my life.
Here is a closeup of the cute little plates that were broken into tiny pieces.....I love the look, but can not imagine breaking the plates myself.....I will let you in on a secret....sometime in the future, I am going to try my hand in this breaking plates thingie.
Another close up of the borders used in the design. I love the little pink flowers and the rims of the plates to form the pattern.
This is the picture from the computer, minus the priority tape, it gives you a better look at the design. I will fill in solid white china pieces to complete the top of the table. I can not wait to find the time to do this project, I am most excited to see how it turns out.
I found this cute little cup at Goodwill too. It was .45 cents. It is rather small, and I think I am going to make a pin cushion out of this......again, when I find the time. I have no problems coming up with ideas, just need to find the time to carry them out.
Here is the underneath side of the little cup, showing the stamp and markings. I love the colors in this cup and the cute little pink flowers.
Lastly, I am so super excited to show you my sweet little vintage purse. Now, this is no ordinary vintage purse. It is most special to me. If you remember my post around Easter, and I showed you a picture of myself as a child, I had a little purse in the photo. I had this purse for years, and have no idea what ever happened to it.
I have looked on eBay, you know the place (where you can find anything) well, I never saw another like it. Well, a few weeks ago, I was visiting blogs and I was looking at some great estate sale finds Carol from Old Glory Cottage had posted on her blog. I nearly fell out of my chair when I saw the same little purse I remembered from my childhood. I quickly emailed Carol to see if she was going to list this on eBay, as I knew she sold on eBay and offered to purchase this from her. Carol would have nothing to do with it, and sent me this purse as a gift. Oh, happy day when this arrived.
See, it is exactly the same, even has the same little flower clasp (my favorite part). My original one had a bit of lace on the top, but I think my mom added that to the purse. No matter, I am thrilled to death to have replaced my childhood purse that I was so fond of. My little purse carried many a crayon, marbles, rubber balls, and a little red wallet for years. I am so pleased to be able to replace my lost treasure. Carol, thank you from the bottom of my heart. I was moved by your generosity.
Oh, and I have an announcement:
July 12th will by my one year blogging anniversary...I can hardly believe it has been a year, and that I have actually had something to share with the blogging community that someone out there wanted to read.
To celebrate this milestone, I am going to host a giveaway....I can not tell you what that will be, because to be honest...I have no idea yet. Just pay me a visit on the 12th....please....just humor me, in the meantime, I will be thinking of something really cool to giveaway.....or at least I hope you like it!

Great projects and thanks for being our hostess.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed seeing the unfinished projects.
ReplyDeleteMy post is about time too, though not the same kind.
Suzanne, that table is going to look absolutely gorgeous! I've always wanted to try something like this, but I wondered if the ridge on the bottom of the plate would cause a problem, because it would be taller than the other pieces. Can't hurt to give it a try!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad that you received the purse, and that you like it! And you're so welcome! It made me really happy to do it!
Love all you fabulous treasures!!..love that sweet side table!!..the mosaic's stunning!!..love the green cup!!..but most of all i love your sweet little cane basket, what a lovely thing to find an identical one from your childhood :)

ReplyDeleteI'm playing today, thanks for hosting but I just realised that the vintage plate I have written about on my tablescaping is not very well seen actually, hope I still count, though there's lots of other vintage stuff there!

Using vintage china for projects is
ReplyDeletea wonderful idea, because your project will be one of a kind!
The purse is absolutely adorable!
You did a wonderful last minute job. I liked it all. I cannot believe you found that purse. You have a way of finding and getting things that no one else can. Post well done!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your post with your unfinished project - you are quite like me in that respect - I have so many ideas, but I need to organize the time I have left in the day! Start working on it, and you can link up on my GET R DONE FRIDAY meme! Would love to have you join us! I am going to post in the morning and link up to your vintage thingie thursday tomorrow! good night!
ReplyDeleteI am like you, many ideas but not enough time. The little purse is so cute.
ReplyDeleteLove you $4 table. Lucky you! Everything at my local thrift is so overpriced.
ReplyDeleteAs always, you have the most gorgeous finds. I can't wait to see the table you do..it will be most beautiful. I love the little cup..it will look so sweet as a pincushion,..if like me, you ever find the time. :). Happy VTT..have a lovely weekend.
ReplyDeletep.s. I'm so happy for you, that there is someone so lovely as to help you replace something so loved from your childhood. What a lovely, gracious lady...
I love all of the treasures on here ! I also love seeing how you turn them even more beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThat plate mosaic is absolutely wonderful. I think it might be fun to break plates and I think I want to give it a try. That plate doesn't look like it was hit with a hammer though ... so I probably should have a large supply of plates to experiment with. Thanks so much Suzanne...I think you're going to be responsible for adding something to MY unfinished project list now. :)

Hi Suzanne, this is my first time here. We've been cleaning out the attic of this home which has been in the family since the 30's so I'm sure I'll be back many times
ReplyDeleteYour table will be so pretty when it's done. Heck, it's pretty now! The story about the purse is so sweet.
Dawn

How cool bout that purse!
ReplyDeletebarbara jean
Oh...your little table is adorable! I'm glad you're doing the mosaic, like others, I've always wanted to try that as well. The only difference is that my 12 yr old would delight in smashin up plates to help out!
ReplyDeleteIt's always enjoyable visiting and I really enjoyed seeing someone else has so many UFP's! It does my heart good to know others are up to their eyebrows in unfinished projects -smile-.
ReplyDeleteThat little purse is so precious.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the great project too..love it!
Whoa! That is going to be exquisite! Love it! I love mosaic old china works of art. Lovely, lovely!! TTFN ~Marydon
ReplyDeleteHi Suzanne, I love that little table, and it will look great when your project is done!
ReplyDeleteLove the purse story too -- how cute!
Thanks for hosting -- this is so much fun, and seeing what others have found is neat.
Cass
Love your Goodwill little mug find - and made in England, no less! My daughter finds great stuff there. Me, not so much.
ReplyDeleteBe sure to post your table when it's all finished with a broken china top!

I think it takes a special method/tool to break the plates so evenly, I would be afraid to try it.They will make a lovely top for your table.
ReplyDeleteI used to do every craft that came along until I realized I could never finish all of those projects & it was making me nuts-I'm ADD-so I gave them all away & now I just make quilts!
Can't wait to see that table when you get it finished. It will be beautiful. How nice of Carol to give you that purse!
ReplyDeleteI feel the same way about breaking things to make them "art." I have considered buying plates at the Thrift store for that purpose but I always put 'em back on the shelf.
ReplyDeleteyour table is going to be totally cute!
That table will be so cute when you've finished it.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your 1st year of blogging. I started about the time when you did as my first day was June 13th.
I have the same problem you have...all these projects and no time to finish them. Always something I can be working on. I have a ton of unfinished projects too. I can't keep up. Now if I could afford to retire, then maybe I could finish things. And get organized and more time blogging and more time to visit family and so on and so on.....
ReplyDeleteHow cool that you were able to get that purse. That is so sweet!
