Giveaway Time: Because It Is To Hot To Do Anything Else!!!

The one thing about the 100 plus degree weather in the summer months is the fact I like to take a back seat to cooking...I mean it is just too darn hot! And that coming from someone who LOVES to cook is saying a lot!!

So in honor of my summer laziness in the kitchen, I decided it was time for a little giveaway here on The Coloradolady. I mean, why should I be all alone in sitting and flipping through a magazine, dreaming of what I'd really love to be cooking in the kitchen but realizing it is just too hot to do a thing!

How would you like a years subscription to this great magazine Taste of Home? I am giving away (2) one year subscriptions to two of my readers.

And.....one lucky winner will win a $35.00 gift card to Williams-Sonoma, which can be used online or in store. Just leave a comment and let me know what is your favorite go-to meal in the hot summer months.....or just tell me you feel like I do and are on a break from cooking...you know...make me feel better!!!

Winner(s) will be drawn Sunday July 24th! And just so you know...Taste of Home and Williams-Sonoma have no idea who I am, and I am sure they really don't care I have sworn off cooking until the temperature reaches below 100 degrees!!! This is from me to you!!! Good Luck!

  3. Strawberry shortcake! Which I know is technically a dessert for most people, but we apparently make it differently than most people. We make the biscuits and use just strawberries and milk with them! Delish!!

  5. Almost anything I can pan toss on the stove quickly, it's too HOT to even grill, I cooked Hamburgers on the stove last week and I love BLT with avacado and fresh tomatoes this time of year easy but filling.

  6. I send my husband out to grill. I love being able to grill bell peppers, and zucchini from our garden along with Porto Bello mushrooms and slices of red onion coated with olive and oil and herbs over pasta with a sprinkle of Parmigiana or Romano cheese.

  10. Well, I just heard on the news yesterday that we have only had 1 hour and 18 min. of 80 degree or over weather this whole year. It has been kind of crazy mixed up weather everywhere. Sorry to hear about the heat. We eat alot of fruit and my husband grills outside when it is hot. Love to win something someday.

  13. I would love to make salads for dinner in the heat but I am the only one in the family who likes them. So our favorite is barbeque chicken on the grill. I have tried several different marinades also so we have the same grilled chicken but with a different flavor.

  14. I'm with you on not cooking when it is so hot. I don't even feel like eating when it is over 100 let alone cooking!LOL! Thanks for the opportunity to win.=)

  15. This is my first summer in Texas....sooooo I am spending it in the pool! Cooking???? I try to get out of it every time I can! I try to cook 30 minute meals as often as I can. Try portabella mushrooms, swiss cheese and tomato on ciabatta bread, its wonderful. thank you for offering the give away.

  16. How sweet of you to host the giveaway. My favorite go to summer meal is chicken on the grill and a cold cous cous salad.

  17. I usually make salad and cut up fruit and then like to have something easy or premade to add to it. I live by a Central Market and they have great premade dinners to heat and eat. Otherwise I don't cook that much different even in this heat other than I don't put things in the oven all day!

  18. I eat a lot of coucous dressed up with green onions, tomatoes, feta cheese, etc. I also eat a lot of tabouli with crackers!

  19. Ooh, I love TOH magazine. Their recipes are always soooo good! In the summer I tend to eat a lot fresh fruit and popsicles. I stay away from anything in the oven! Cous-cous salad is one of my favorites too! I love adding dried cranberries, toasted almond slivers, apple chunks and an olive oil/apple cider vinegar dressing. Great giveaway!

  20. Thanks for an awesome giveaway. We have a Williams Sonoma opening in town next week. This would be fabulous to have. I am definitely swearing off cooking as well. Too hot in Savannah.

  21. When it is hot, we like to grill or saute chicken breasts and then use them on salad. We usually make enough so we don't have to cook the next night. Saves time and effort. Whip up some homemade dressing and use your favorite lettuce and fresh veggies and it is good to go!!! Nice giveaway.

  22. Confession, if it wasn't for my husband I would live on cold cereal all summer long. Since I like to stay happily married though I cook meals in my crockpot and plug it in outside. If we are having company there will be a whole row of them outside just bubbling away.

  23. I just noticed yesterday's post, how funny!

  24. My favorite is grilled chicken on salad. Thanks for the giveaway!

  25. My favorite go-to meal in the summer is Salad Bar ... late at night cook chicken, make hard boiled eggs, pasta salad, etc. - have to avoid heating up the house during the day. At dinner put out a spread of every kind of salad fixing, cheese, pickles, etc. ... no 2 plates in the house are the same :)

  26. I make taco salad. I brown ground turkey and season it with white chili mix. I also make a roux and add Velveeta and Mexican three-cheese blend. After melting the cheeses, I season with onion and garlic powder, ground cumin, and a little of the chili seasoning. This cheese dip goes well with the taco salad. What a fabulous giveaway, by the way!

  27. I love to use my roaster (doesn't heat up the whole kitchen like using the oven can) in the summer, or use the BBQ. Or if it's just me eating, I'm happy with baby carrots, dip, and a peanut butter sandwich!

  28. When it's too hot to cook we do TAKEOUT!!! Thanks for a chance!

  29. My favorite go-to meal is garbanzo bean salad with cukes, red peppers, red onions, balsamic vinegar, olive oil and spices along with anything off the grill.

  30. Wow ~ those are great giveaways and I would love to win! I have two go to meals when it's really hot outside. One is a curried chicken salad with slivered almonds, dried cranberries, chopped celery and scallions and chunks of avocado over mixed greens. The other is my "Five P Salad with Chicken" which is pasta, pine nuts, pesto, parmesan and peas. If we are tired of those, I'll always suggest going out to a nice cool restaurant.

    Hugs,
    Susan and Bentley

  32. We seem to be eating lots of cucumber and tomato with grilled chicken. I agree with you. It's too hot to eat much of anything else. Cold watermelon has been a real treat. Thanks for the giveaway!

  33. I'm loving the crockpot during these hot summer months. It's great for when you don't have time to be cooking or if you don't want to heat up the kitchen. My favorite crockpot recipe is Paula Dean's Crockpot Macaroni and Cheese.

  34. We have BLT's in the summer quite frequently! Add some cut fruit and everyone is happy with it :)

  35. Since I do all the cooking for our household, I get by in the summer as easy as possible Some days I just say you are on your own, and that means, leftovers, salad, a hotdog or just whatever they can find. I love to cook but the hardest part for me is thinking of what to cook.

  36. At our house we eat salads, veggies, and lots of fruit. It is way to hot to cook. Thanks for the giveaway.

  37. I just can't seem to get motivated to cook and I hate to pay for takeout! But, we had Chinese takeout last night (but I will have leftovers for lunch!)

  38. BLTs, burgers on the grill, and mozzarella cheese, tomato, and deli ham all broiled together. Thanks for the great contest! VermontPines@aol.com

  39. Takeout is always an option. If I can manage to cook chicken, i toss grilled or sauted chicken with a green salad. TOH is a great source of recipes!

  40. I saw "Taste of Home" and immediately clicked to see the full post! I look for those magazines in the grocery store (it's the pictures that get you)...but quickly put it down. College student status does not allow my bank account to be on the same page as my stomach, or more so: my love for cooking and baking. It's quite a loss. But! I digress...my favorite things in the summer months: cold lemonade, and a spinach salad with apples, craisins, walnuts and raspberry vinaigrette. Yummm!

  41. I can't stop cooking totally, as the guys really like to eat. However, I am trying to persuade the husband to cook on the grill more often. Thanks for the giveaway!

  42. I absolutely LOVE a cool, crisp spinach and strawberry salad! But, esp. when the kiddoes were little (and weren't sure about green foods ;) ) we would resort to cheese and crackers and some fresh fruit and dip! YUMM!!

Sometimes someone says something really small, and it's like it fits into this empty space in your heart!

Thank you for stopping by and leaving your thoughts here, they really mean a lot to me!
