Vintage Thingie Thursday: Vintage Juri Wooden Toys

Some days, I am amazed at what folks decide to donate to a thrift store or Goodwill. I have come across a thrift store here in town that has been here for years, but I have not shopped there but maybe once or twice. I have recently been stopping in every now and again and am simply amazed at the finds. Seriously.

The store has a lot of high quality items, you never have to worry about sifting through junk at this ship. Best part about that is the fact that it is as clean as a department store. Just this week, I bought my daughter a couture dress, that was brand new, still with the tags on it that retailed for $178.00. That bargain dress cost me a whole $4.00. Simply unbelieveable.

While looking around in the shop one afternoon, I saw a bag of what  looked like to be matchboxes. Upon closer inspection, the tag on the bag said "vintage puzzles" and the whole bag was marked for $2.00.

I asked the lady if I could see the bag and she said they were puzzles. I opened the bag and discovered these were more grand in my eyes than just puzzles.  I very quickly told her I'd take them.

These are small folks.....super small. Each box measures 2 X 1.5 inches.

Inside are the animals and trees and railings that are pictured on the box....in WOOD, not paper or plastic. Tiny, tiny pieces of wooden toys.

It is hard to imagine how small and cute these are. There were about twenty five total boxes of all the different ones pictured above in the bag. I tried to look these up online but only found a couple, one vintage find was indeed listed as Juri Vintage Puzzle and was very similar to what I have shown here.

Another listed them as vintage box of toys. I really do not know which is correct. They are made in Western Germany by Juri. This is a very unusual find for me, and I am sure the only reason they were still at the shop as someone thought they were either boxes of matches, or paper puzzles. When I showed the clerk, she was shocked that they were not paper puzzles. She said she had never seen anything like it....and I have to agree, I have not ever seen any thing like these myself.

Sometimes, the greatest of finds can certainly the the smallest of things. Have you ever seen any little boxes like these with wooden toys inside??
