Vintage Thingie Thursday: Vintage Restaurant Ware

Welcome everyone to Vintage Thingies Thursday. If you have a love for vintage things, well....you have come to the right place. We have a "dog-gone" good time each and every week!!! If you are new to this party, please take the time to read and follow the instructions for participating in Vintage Thingies Thursday, click HERE. I try and keep things fairly simple, so  please make sure you follow the instructions.
Please only ONE link per week.

I have been working on rearranging some things around here lately and thought it was a good opportunity to show you a few of my well loved restaurant ware I have in my collection.

I just love this mug with all of its red floral design that just makes me smile. This Syracuse cup is heavy and reminds me of cups used in diners long ago.

I wish I could remember where I picked this plate up from, but I can  not. I do wish I would have found more than one, but one was all I found that day. This is another great restaurant plate that is really heavy. Funny thing is, when I find these restaurant ware plates, the first thing I notice is the size of these compared to the size of dinner plates today. These vintage ones are much smaller than the oversize ones we fill up today....no wonder we ( I ) have a weight problem. I have decided to start using these vintage plates and no refills!!

I love this old beat up platter. The navy floral design is just stunning. The pattern is called Daisy. I know it has a lot of wear and tear but that only adds to its charm for me.

I wonder, if I am the only one with a passion for old restaurant dishes??? Surely, I could not be alone!!

Happy Vintage Thingie Thursday!!! Have a great week ahead!!

  1. Lovely dishes, Suzanne! I remember fondly the white Pyrex ware (and other utilitarian stuff) in the old diners. Mm, I can almost smell the coffee and grease fryers!

  5. You have such a pretty collection. Those plates were sure made well to stand up to all the wear. I'm all for using these smaller plates. Doesn't food taste better on them?

  6. I love restaurant ware! I sometimes have to make myself stop buying pieces. Just no room for them. I love the red cup, what a wonderful pattern. Can you imagine eating off those dishes at a diner? Yes I agree the plates are much smaller...good idea to start using them! I think I've gained weight this summer...ugh!

  11. Hello Suzanne, I do love restaurant dishes. They are fun to find and the designs are so different. I used to sell them when I was in the antique business. There are lots of collectors out there. Good luck finding more. I like the idea of using smaller plates. Anything that helps us eat a bit less. Smile.

  13. Suzanne, I did it! Sorry to get so excited but face it, you've not got some rocket scientist here, just me. Not only did I get my vintage thingy's picture on your wonderful blog - I put your button on mine. Gloating... Thanks for your instructions - now that I've learned a bit, they make sense. Love the white cup with red - I also like the heaviness - the feel - of restaurant dishes.

  14. Such beautiful pieces!!!

I have something I need to send you because everytime I see it I think of you. It was my grandmothers, who was a collector of everything! It's nothing that I can't part with so I'd love to send it your way. :-) It's very old - or at least I think it is. :-)

    I'll send you an email.

Sometimes someone says something really small, and it's like it fits into this empty space in your heart!

Thank you for stopping by and leaving your thoughts here, they really mean a lot to me!
