While out and about a few weeks ago, I found these adorable little metal canisters with the bees on them. There were only two, but too cute to pass up. They remind me of the 1970's. They were a great price on half price day at an estate sale for $3.00 for the set.
Happy Vintage Thingie Thursday!!

Vintage Thingie Thursday: A Wienerful Gift!
Welcome everyone to Vintage Thingies Thursday. If you have a love for vintage things, well....you have come to the right place. We have a really good time each and every week!!!

About a week or so ago, my very sweet friend Patti left a package for me on my front porch. I was not home at the time she stopped by, but I certainly had a sweet find when I returned home.
My friend had gone to an estate sale and found this adorable vintage dachshund salt and pepper set. Is this not the sweetest?? It really brought a smile to my heart!
I love how this looks like my Sophie.....I have seen these before online and they are always going for more than what I want to pay with shipping.....these will have a very good home.
One of the neat things is these still had the original cork stoppers. I so often find cute salt and pepper shakers but the stoppers are missing.
Here is the mark on the bottom...made in Japan, I don't recall the symbol above the letters, maybe someone out there is familiar with that.
And....if you are a doxie fanatic like myself, you might enjoy this video of this couple's dachshund item(s) collection. there are many vintage pieces there, and things from all over the world that I may never find myself....it was informative and very neat to see.
I did manage to spot a couple of things that I do have in my own collection....made me feel a bit better!!! If you want to view it, just click the video!!
Thanks for all the emails about my Tuesday post and your concern for me....I really am fine.....just adjusting to many changes that I really did not care to make or really do not want to adjust to or with.....guess you could say it is a good dose of reality and life......this too shall pass......it just will take a bit of time.
Happy Vintage Thingie Thursday!!

Giveaway: Share a Technique to win and check out Venus Embrace Razor and Satin Care Shaving Cream
For many parents, there is a certain dread when facing new situations with preteens and teens. The warning signs are usually there when first experiences are about to take place. I have found it most comforting to face these situations head on and talk about whatever is on the horizon.
Young girls of today start shaving a lot sooner than most moms want. I am sure you will agree that wanting it to take a back seat instead of front and center at such an early age will not prolong this experience. Most girls will display signs of curiosity and start asking questions.
Young girls of today start shaving a lot sooner than most moms want. I am sure you will agree that wanting it to take a back seat instead of front and center at such an early age will not prolong this experience. Most girls will display signs of curiosity and start asking questions.
That is the cue for moms to decide what main points need to be covered on the topic and plan on initiating the conversation in advance. By taking this approach, it will make the transition of the first experience so much easier and that a pleasant experience is had for everyone involved.
When sitting down to talk about important aspects of a first experience such as shaving, it is important to decide what is the main point of safety you'd like to get across to your teen. Safety and knowledge on staying safe is of the utmost importance in many parents minds.

It is also important to suggest certain products that have been tried and tested and known to deliver the results you are after. When suggesting a razor, it is important to have a product that not only leaves you feeling incredible with a super-smooth shave but leaves you with amazing-looking skin.
The Venus Embrace is just that type of razor, with its 5 blades plus a Ribbon of Moisture for a comfortable shave and with fewer nicks and cuts than Venus Divine. Another feature important from a mom's standpoint is that the Venus Embrace has a soft grip handle for great control.
One of the questions that came up in the talk I had with my own daughter was how to get a silky feel after shaving and not a rough feel to the skin. It was an easy decision to suggest she not use her dad's shaving cream but instead try Satin Care when shaving.
One of the questions that came up in the talk I had with my own daughter was how to get a silky feel after shaving and not a rough feel to the skin. It was an easy decision to suggest she not use her dad's shaving cream but instead try Satin Care when shaving.
Along with being gentle and for ladies, I knew she would enjoy the sparkling, fruity scent of this shaving gel, and she would certainly get the silky legs she was wanting by adding this to her shaving routine.
The answer to addressing the firsts that are sure to come with preteens is that it is important to be aware these situations are coming. It is also important to be pro-active in discussing issues and important facts in each situation.
By being pro-active it is easier to suggest trusted brands and products you know will make the situation a more pleasant experience and the transition a little less stressful....at least for the moms!
The Venus Embrace razor and the Passionista Fruit Satin Care shaving gel are two products that help take the worry out of teens who are shaving for the first time.
When you notice your own daughter starting to pay more attention to her appearance, you want to make sure she's getting the right information, and it is coming from you and not others. If you need some more great tips for first-time shavers, check out the Venus website.
What are some of the ways you tackle conversations like shaving (and other "firsts") with your daughter? Leave a comment and share tips that have worked for you when tackling first conversations with your teens to be entered for a chance to win a $50 Visa gift card, courtesy of BlogHer and Venus.
The rules for the $50 Visa gift card are stated below:

This is What Happens When I Eliminate Late Night Snacks
I have some very spoiled dogs around here....and as a matter of fact, the are really too smart for their own good. My pup are used to having a snack with me in the evenings when I watch TV. The snack of choice is popcorn. Now, I know they really don't need popcorn as I sure as heck don't need it, but they love it and only get a few bites as "we" watch television in the evenings.
Last night, I was cutting fabric and not really watching TV......so I decided to skip the evening snack because I was busy. Not once but several times, Dora got on the back of the chair and was whining....she was wanting her popcorn. I know what they want by how they communicate with me and I know what they are trying to tell me.....it is my job to know after all. Let me stress...she had eaten her dinner just a couple of hours earlier...she simply wanted her popcorn snack. After much unsuccessful whining....Dora decided to just give up....( at least that is what I thought) and I told her we were not having a snack it was too late.
Next thing I know, I hear crunching noise, a rather loud crunching noise at that. Then, Bailey jumps up from under my feet and sits as still as a mouse...just looking...I knew right then something was not right.....
This is what happens around here I guess when I decide to stop the late night snacking....DORA takes it upon herself to remedy the situation.....Do you see what she has??? A CUCUMBER straight out of our GARDEN.....
She went right out the doggie door and picked herself a cucumber.......it would have been a tomato if they had been ripe.... Baily is looking at me as if to ask, "What the HECK" she would never go out and do that herself...but she sure wants her fair share!!
Yes...Dora is resourceful.....or stubborn is more like it! I got on to her good about getting in the garden and snatching vegetables and then this is what I had to look at.....
Now tell me....would you feel bad taking away a late night snack, just because you had something else to do besides sit and watch television? After all, the poor dog had to go all the way out to the garden and pick her own snack.....seriously.......
.......and it was dark to boot!!!
I am assuming this very first cucumber of the season was tasty....as it sure smelled wonderful!! Oh....the life with these dogs!!!!! It is NEVER a dull moment around here....EVER!!! And I certainly would not have it any other way!!!

I found this little dish sitting on a shelf, it was pretty dirty, but I picked it up anyway. I could not really read the mark on the back as the sticker was covering it up. I knew it was vintage and it has a sort of appeal that I love in vintage dishes, so I put it in my basket.
The price was marked .50 cents...so half price was only .25 cents.....could not leave it!!! I thought the little flower had a chip but turns out, it was made like that.
Here is the other side of the flower. I think this is really a neat piece and it cleaned up just super!!

Tell Me Tuesday: Week Nineteen
Welcome to Tell Me Tuesday.....First off the title is a bit deceiving.....it really is not about you telling me anything.... but answering a question truthfully and maybe telling yourself a little something you had not thought about.
I'd love for you to join me each week, and copy the question onto your blog and answer the question....and link back here. I am sure it will be interesting how there will be many different answers to the same question.....and hopefully give each of us something to think about as this new year progresses. My thought is so many people (including myself) are looking for some answers to various things. I have a feeling that the answers are inside needing to be jiggled loose and maybe a question posed a certain way will have a cause and effect in a good way. We will see how it goes! I have committed to this once a week for the whole year of 2012. I'd love for you to take the challenge with me!
I am keeping the rules simple...I'd love to watch this grow as the year goes on.
1. Grab the button on the sidebar if you like so others can find this new writing experience each week.
2. Once you link in, visit the person who linked in before you and leave them a comment. It would be great to visit and leave comments for as many as you can. But at least try and leave the person ahead of you in the link a comment of support.
3. Please link back to my blog and mention Tell Me Tuesday somewhere in your POST. That is it....easy.
Most of all, look at this writing experience with an open mind. Sometimes the questions will be hard...and require some thought. That is a good thing. Other times it will be easy. You can add photos, or whatever you like to your post. It is about you after all. ~ Thanks for joining me.....I hope you enjoy this each week.

Week Nineteen Question:
If you were forced to eliminate everything in your life except what would fit into a backpack, what would you put in it???
In a world where we have so much stuff....what a question!......it took a little bit of thinking and not so easy to answer I might add.
For me, thinking about this today - I'd place in my backpack.......
* my phone
* a few pictures of my family
* a change of underwear ( I'd most likely try to layer as many changes of clothes I could on my body) truth.
* personal items ( toothbrush, hairbrush, rubber band, soap)
* sewing kit
* a journal and pen
* my choose joy canvas - because I would need to remember to do that
* the first quilt I made
Now, I would assume I was walking away with my backpack and four leashes with four doxies on the end of those leashes. If that was not possible....I'd then walk away with four doxies stuffed inside the backpack, their leashes and a water bowl and my phone in my pocket. I'd pack the family photos that I love in a pocket of the backpack. ( I sure hope I had a big backpack, like the ones from LL BEAN) I'd never leave my pups under any circumstances....I could make do without any of the other stuff, but those dogs depend on me and I would not let them down by walking away.
*** this was an interesting one, because I have all of this "stuff" that I feel like I just HAVE to have. Ironically all of these must have things, that I do enjoy, would not have found themselves inside my backpack. I don't know about you, but this question really was another light bulb moment for me......

Finished For Friday - Quilt Blocks for Jubilee Quilt
This week, I was able to finish the new blocks for the Barrister's Sow Along and in doing so, that keeps me all caught up and up to speed for the next blocks to be released.
Here are the four blocks all done.
And here are the same blocks in the Christmas colorways. I am loving how this is coming along. Lots of fun here...
I received my package for the In The Bag Ugly Fabric Quilt Challenge. These came from BJ in Arizona. Click here to see the post on the Challenge blog. I am so excited about what I am going to do with these fabrics.
Lastly, I thought I'd leave you with this thought for the weekend....maybe something to remember next time you happen to be in a fabric store with your husband........
......these are SO going to by my words when he asks about how much fabric I am buying!!
Have a great weekend!!!! Sew something fantastic!!

Vintage Thingie Thursday: Vintage Things in Yard
Welcome everyone to Vintage Thingies Thursday. If you have a love for vintage things, well....you have come to the right place. We have a really good time each and every week!!!

This week I took photos in my back yard. I seem to use mostly vintage things to house plants and veggies and they are displayed all over my yard. I love the whimsy charm this brings to an outdoors setting.
Old, weathered copper pot was a road side find...free....and the patina on this is really neat. I love the pink hydrangeas in this pot.
Vintage plate border is on one side of my yard. I love how this looks with the flowers filling in behind them. Very charming.
Old sap buckets hold lots of flowers. I have had these for years. They are great for housing flowers.
Large watering trough. This is a large one that I have just this year filled with dirt and planted flowers throughout. The plants are finally coming up and filling in the space, I really love how this looks.
Here is a smaller galvanized trough. An old vintage cup and saucer is peeking out from the right side.
Vintage water pump, Old chair as a planter, and a old water jug makes for a whimsy fun spot off the patio.
I even used buckets this year for planing herbs in my garden....so far, they are working out great for that too!
Another trough and an old window frame adds to the charm of more container veggies growing in one corner of the yard. There are lots of options for growing veggies in your yard, and if space is limited, there are options for that too!! Just think outside the box~~
This old wire has been around here a long time. I finally found a great use for it...it is serving as a trellis for the cucumbers I planted this year.....hope I start getting some soon, I want to make some pickles this year!!
It is easy to use every space you have in our outside environment and make it your own. One thing everyone says whey they see my back yard....is that it definitely is "Me".....I hope they mean that in a good way!!!
