Blue Monday: Charming Houses of Cripple Creek

I have mentioned before that one of my favorite places in the world is Cripple Creek Colorado. I love how the little town is nestled among the large Mountains of Colorado. There is plenty of charm from days gone by, one just needs to stop and take a look around.

My late mother in law, Pat, and I always talked about wanting to own a house in town. Most all of the houses are just loaded with charm. Many are close to being well over 100 years old, while many of the houses peppered in the mountains are indeed that old or older. I love driving down the streets and looking at all the little houses, most built very close together and think about what life must have been like here in this little Gold Mining town when the Gold Rush was in full swing.

Just look at this Blue Beauty. I absolutely love all the colors used in this house. This little gem was for sale, but even in the economy the way it is today...it was still out of my price range. I found the real estate office on line and this house was listed for $365,000.00. Now that made me blue........

Now, here is another house that just had me drooling. Notice the beautiful shades of blue in the trim of the house. We looked in all the windows, and read the information about this home. Most of the inside is still original from the 1800's. The hardwoods, the lamps, the molding, fireplace, all the light fixtures were original. When I saw the light fixtures in the dining room and living room, I was shocked at such beauty. You could tell this place in its day was the crowning jewel of this town. It sat on a small hill, just outside the main part of town, but still an easy walking distance to all the hustle and bustle of a mining town. I could picture myself here, enjoying the mountain views and being queen of this castle. I loved this place.

Another charming part of this house was the fence that surrounded the property. I loved it, all the colors and splendor had my head spinning. I felt like I could hear my mother in law whispering what a great place this would be.

Here is a view from one of the neighborhood streets, you will notice the house in the distance has a beautiful blue roof. That Blue Ford truck is Steve's pickup, he was patiently waiting for me to take my photos....well, not so patiently....but waiting he was!

Hope you enjoyed a look at some historic homes in Cripple Creek Colorado.

Be sure to visit Sally at Smiling Sally's Blog for a Great Blue Monday with lots of beautiful blues to see today. It makes a great way to start off the week.

  2. Beautiful...I LOVE those Colorado mountain towns...I haven't been through Cripple Creek for a few years...you're making me want to head back. We were just in Steamboat Springs but had no time to drive around there...it was too large for me...give me the back country please. Crested Butte has some wonderfully colorful homes also...we would be laughed off our street but they look so at home in the mountains. Thanks for sharing...a very happy post for me.

  4. They are very charming, Suzanne. I own a Victorian in St. Augustine, but these have far more detail in terms of the fishscale shingles and decorative trim. They are a lot of work to maintain, but they do have charm.

Some day I would love to visit Colorado. It looks like such a lovely place. My husband has two cousins who live there.

    XO,

    Sheila :-)

  8. The lady of the house in the homes would truly be the Queen of the Castle. Beautiful. The creative detail in these old homes always amazes me.

  16. These homes are wonderful to see. Oh how I would love to know the families who lived there and learn about their lives. I like the idea of the gal who said you could both chip in and buy it, and make it a quilt retreat place...sounds like Elm Creek Manor~! I would come!

  17. Hi Suzanne, We didn't get to Cripple Creek and now I am so sad we didn't. Bo was supposed to meet us there and we had hotel reservations too. Bo, and her hubby couldn't handle the high altitude and everything changed. sigh. The old Victorian homes are so charming. I love old towns with the beautiful old homes to admire.

Miramont Castle is about a block off the main road to the Cog Railway. You can see it from that road. When we spotted it we didn't stop that day. We went back a few days later. It was fascinating to visit. I will post more on Thursday with some history. I will also link it so whoever is interested can read it on the computer. The history is looong so I will just highlight some of the castle's past.

We loved our visit to your awesome cabin. I think Bo was a bit intimidated because it is remote. We were thrilled to be there.

    Love ya, Jeanne

It's worth the drive up mountain to see it. Lots of charm is there, for sure.

  31. I did enjoy. The first house - Those details atop with wavy patterns looks interesting. I like this house. Small compared to others but beautifully done :-) Of course, I'm sure everybody would love to have a house on a hill overlooking the town LOL And to have the original woodwork and some furniture from way back is just wonderful.

    Happy Blue Monday!

  38. What a charming place ---and great houses. Imagine how difficult it would be to keep the paint looking great ---and expensive to have painters do it like this, rather than just slopping on one shade. But it looks like a great place to live.

Thanks for stopping by my Blue Monday entry ---I left a response to your comment there.

Sometimes someone says something really small, and it's like it fits into this empty space in your heart!

Thank you for stopping by and leaving your thoughts here, they really mean a lot to me!
