This week I have a cute little vase I found that just screams 1970's to me! At first, when I saw this I thought it might be some type of milk glass, but I am not sure, it is pretty thick. No matter, I loved the little flowers.
Here is a side shot of the little vase. No markings at all on this one....it sorta reminded me of the glass you would see in things that were made by Avon during the 1970's, but like I said....there were no markings.
I think it looks so cute in my window ledge....makes me smile!!!
Now another thing I want to share is the Birthday card for seniors. My blogging friend who inspired this opportunity passed away suddenly last month and it was a tragic shock for her family and friends. Infact, one of her last post on facebook was about a Birthday coming up and sending out a card.
I'd like to encourage you to do just that....bless a senior with a card and a dollar bill.....not only will it brighten someone's day, but it is also keeping the giving spirit of my friend, Pat alive and well.
I picked these vintage cards up at an estate sale.....I just love vintage cards and may very well send one out this month.
We have two Birthdays this month....
Joyce Walker will be 80!! She is full of life, loves chickens and roosters, takes care of her husband better than you could ever imagine!! A very special lady indeed!! Her Birthday is July 2nd...I know very near, but she loves to "Birthday" long after the date so go ahead and mail a card with 1.00....she won't mind she loves surprises!!
Joyce Walker
11010 First Beech Cove
Hernando, Mississippi 38632
The second one is also a Joyce, she will be 82. She lost her husband a few years ago, but still does more for herself than she ever should be doing at this age!! Full of life and loves to save a buck!!! I know a card and a dollar would thrill this one beyond believe as well....if you can 't send a dollar, a card will do just fine. Her birthday is July 18th.
Joyce Cooper
1621 Barron Lane
Ft. Worth, Tx 76112
As always, thank you so much for being a part of this project....and I'd like to ask instead of taking the time to leave me a comment, instead write a Birthday note and send to these special ladies!! Help me make their day a little brighter and full of fun and a super surprise by a card shower!!!
Happy Vintage Thingie Thursday everyone....have a wonderful holiday weekend!!!

The Truth......
The truth is sometimes hard to accept or change. Sometimes.
I have fallen off the blogging wagon, and it has not been easy to get my ducks in a row and get with it again! I have folders of pictures just waiting to be uploaded and their stories told. I have taken tons of photos for recipes I want to share....but there they all sit in folders safely tucked away...just waiting.
The truth is...I don't know why I am in this slump. I have been busy, but that is a sorry excuse....even to me!
I'd like to say, that I am most thankful for the ones who visit anyway, some leave comments, some don't....but I know you show up. Thanks for the emails.....I hope to shake this funk I have been in and get back to myself. Thank you all for your concern and kind words.....I love you guys more than my vintage dishes....and well you know me, that means I love ya a lot!
Thanks for staying with me......

I Heart Rustic And Worn Looking Things
....I really do.....but as much as I love rustic and worn, sometimes you just need to freshen things up a bit!
This past weekend we did just that.....and let me tell you in the Texas 100 plus degree heat...it was no easy task. This next weekend will no doubt involve staining..which I have already been informed I will be doing. That is fine, I can handle that....wonder when I should mention to my husband that while I will be staining....he will be hauling flagstone????
More on this project to come.......if I make it through the next weekend!!

Five Minute Friday: "Wonder".......
Today I'm linking up to Lisa-Jo aka the gypsy mama, who chooses a topic every Friday and writes for five minutes.
Only five minutes
And the rule is that whatever you write about in that five minutes is what you posts. No editing your thoughts. Today, her topic choice is "Wonder....."
Ready. Set. Go......
The wonder of parenthood and what it brings is an amazing thing. From the time of your child's birth, on into adulthood you are forever wondering about this and that, or at least I am.
I often wonder to the fact that when my kids were small, I used to wonder what it would be like when they were grown, gone from home. I would wonder and imagine how quiet and less stressed my life would be when that day came. I'd imagine the "magic" of having just my husband and myself alone with not a care in the world....finally. I seriously wonder why in the world I ever thought those thoughts.
I have wondered why there was no "magic" when the day finally came and my kids left on their own to start their own lives....far from it. I wondered why the stress was magnified one hundred percent. Now that they were gone, out of my sight, let me tell you how stressful that is. You always worry about their well being and hope they make good choices.
I wonder today, how long this melancholy feeling will last as my son pulled out of the driveway to go back to his home. I am thankful he was here for his vacation, and we got to spend time with him, but I miss him so when he leaves. He is asweet boy wonderful man and he is the "son"shine to my days.
The one thing I did get when my kids left home was the peace and quiet.....and I seriously wonder how I ever thought that was going to be a good thing.....stop......
~Footnote~ If you are a young parent.....don't rush your kids into growing up. Enjoy them now when they are small...even if you are so tired and stressed you think you can not make it....this is the best time of your life...you will know I am right when they are grown and gone from home.

Vintage Thingie Thursday: Vintage Ads 1956
Welcome everyone to Vintage Thingies Thursday. If you have a love for vintage things, well....you have come to the right place. We have a "dog-gone" good time each and every week!!!
If you are new to this party, please take the time to read and follow the instructions for participating in Vintage Thingies Thursday, click HERE. I try and keep things fairly simple, so please make sure you follow the instructions. Please only ONE link per week.
This week, I have some ads that are dated back to 1956. I love vintage ads and enjoy looking at them. Sometimes, I just shake my head at the advertising tactics, but none the less they are entertaining.
This one is for a Singer sewing machine. You should see what I look like when I am sewing. I wonder back then, if ladies really dressed up to sew in their sewing rooms??? I can hardly believe that they did, but if they dressed just to sew...they are better than I am that is for sure.
This ad for Breck hairspray brings back lots of memories for me. My grandma always seemed to have Breck or Hairnet hairspray in her bathroom. I remember this can well.
Slimness and Pepsi.....boy that sure is a concept now isn't it????? Wonder why it is not working for me???
Love this ad for the General Electric washer and dryer. Love the color and all the promises they make to the housewife who purchasing these appliances. I had to do just that here recently. My old washer died and well, it cost as much nearly as a new one to fix it, so we opted to buy a new one. I tend to get attached to my appliances and don't really care for new ones at all. This was no different this time.....
I thought I HAD to have this front loader.....could not live without it!! Well, about now, I wish I had the OLD one back.....I can not get used to the new one. Let me tell you a few things I have learned.....1. once you put the laundry soap in the machine, don't open the door.....unless you want to be cleaning up soap all in the front of the machine and floor. 2. You just don't add a stray sock or pair of your husband's underwear you find after you start the load......unless you want water on the floor. 3. and don't think you are going to wash a QUICK load.....it takes way longer than I thought to wash a load of laundry in this machine......
I guess I have some getting used to this one before I deem it wonderful and enjoy it. It takes me a while...got to get used to the new and improved first!!!
Have a wonderful weekend everyone!!! Happy Vintage Thingie Thursday~

2. make sure your post has something to do with something vintage. All advertisements will be deleted. If you'd like to advertise on my blog, email me, we can work that out. No more free advertising by linking in. Shame on those who do this, nothing is free in life.
Starting this month, if you fail to either have the button on your blog, or in your blog post and/or have not linked back to my blog in your post. I will delete your link.
It is not fair to those who follow the rules to allow others not to do so. I am not being ugly, but rules are rules.....in all aspects of life. How to save your candleholders when the candle wax melts
This is probably the most random post I have done in a while...but I have been super busy lately, and blogging or inspiration has been few and far between. Hopefully, there will be some kind of improvement soon....
I love candles. For years, I'd toss the candle holder once the candle was used up and the wax was stuck all over the sides of the glass container. Somewhere along the way, I read about how to save my glass candle holders.....and friends, let me say it works like a charm.
Here is an example of the candles that will ruin the candle holders once it melts.....I should have taken better pictures, but I think you will get the just of what I mean here.
Now, once the candle is stuck to the glass, it is hard as heck to remove...thus I always tossed mine in the trash or recycle bin.
See how the wax is all over the bottom and side...well, take this and place it in your freezer for about a half hour. This is what it looked like when I took it out of the freezer....
...this is how it looks once the wax POPS out of the glass holder. Never fails to come out once it is frozen, and works every time. Especially works really well on the tall glass cylinder candle holders too. Once the wax pops out, wash and dry and it is good as new! I don't know if you have known this tip or not, but I figure it might be new to someone out there!! I know....very random.....but it is good useless bit of knowledge!!!

Five Minute Friday: "Home......"
Today I'm linking up to Lisa-Jo aka the gypsy mama, who chooses a topic every Friday and writes for five minutes.
Only five minutes
And the rule is that whatever you write about in that five minutes is what you posts. No editing your thoughts. Today, her topic choice is "Home....."
Ready. Set. Go......
Home is a small word which has such a large meaning. Home in every since of the word means building or place of residence to most. But for me, that is only the small portion of the meaning of that one word.
Home is where your heart sings, where the skies are blue and where you feel the safest more than any other place on earth. It does not have to be your place of residence, but rather where your heart rest and settles upon when there is turmoil. Sometimes, for me, home is not close at all. Home is the feeling for me that I get as I drive through my grandparents town and drive down their street. For one small instant of time, I am safe again, happy and carefree in the all too familiar surroundings of yesterday. I always feel like I have "come home" when I go there, even if it is sad that none of the ones I love are with us anymore...it will always be home.
Home is the people who mean the most to me, the ones I love, the ones who love me. The people in my life no matter how much time has past, still know me and my heart like a book. When I think of them, I think of home. The familiar. The knowing. The never changing.
Home is where we all can be ourselves around the people who love us. It is the place we don't have to act one way or another, we are accepted and loved even if we have shortcomings. Home is where I find myself very content to be, it is my happy place, with my family and of course my dogs.....they are my heart, both of them.
Home is so much more than a house...home is the memories, the good times and the bad, the people who bring joy to our lives and the dreams we dream of a bright future. Home is the one knowing thing that never changes. It is the place we all know we can run to when we need a hug or a lift up....no matter what "home" is...we all have a place like that in our hearts that are dear to us. Stop.
Only five minutes

It's time for Vintage Thingie Thursday once again! I hope everyone is having a great week. I have had a busy one as usual. I am hoping in a week or so, things will slow down and I can have more time to visit everyone and enjoy your goodies!! Please be patient....I miss visiting everyone, but I have just been snowed under!!
This week, I'd like to show you some adorable egg cups that belonged to my husband's late stepfather. I think they are adorable and I have not seen these in antique stores for a good while now.
These are vintage egg cups from Opalex, a french glass company. I dated these back to the 1050's. They really are as sweet as can be.
There are two jadeite green cups in this set......I found that there was a pink jadeite color too that these were made with, and I sure thought, "Oh, how I wish I could find two pink ones."
Here are the two milk glass little chicks. So sweet, just ready to hold an egg. I like it that they belonged to someone special and they have a special place now with us in our home.
Have a great week everyone!!! It is getting mighty hot around here......how long until fall????

It's time for Vintage Thingies Thursday again. Man the week flew by for me. Hope every one's week is going well. This week for your viewing pleasure is vintage Disney children's items.
Now this first item is very dear to my heart. This is a baby spoon and fork set with adorable Mickey and Minnie Mouse. My grandmother told me that it belonged to my father. I can remember as a very young girl, I would always look at this set in her silverware drawer. For some reason, they always intrigued me. I don't really remember using them, I just liked the way they looked. She eventually gave them to me, and I have treasured them ever since.
To tell you the truth, honestly, I love them for the memories they represent. Memories of getting up very early in the morning and being in the kitchen while my "memaw" made breakfast, and me pestering her about the spoon and fork. I like the fact that they were my dad's but that is really not important to me, because as a child I could never imagine him using these at all! For some reason, that just did not seem to fit with my dad. This little spoon and fork represent a beloved time spent with my grandmother in her kitchen. They are truly a family treasure, just like the memories I have of my dear grandmother.
From what I found out on the Internet these date back to the 1930's. My dad was born in 1938, so that fits. The 4.25" "Mickey Mouse" fork shows Mickey walking w/one hand waving in the air. The 4" "Minnie Mouse" spoon shows her full figure also w/one hand waving in the air. Back of each reads "Fairfield Silver Plate."
Sorry, I did not polish these little jewels, but I think you can see the graphics on the spoon much better the way they are.
I really love the old vintage Mickey and Minnie, they are so cute.
Now this is the a picture I found off the Internet. This is the original box they would have came in, and I am sure increasing the value. Very neat. I just wanted to show you how great this is in the original box. I don't have the box that they originally came in, but that is OK, I have wonderful memories instead of sifting through a silverware drawer in my grandmothers kitchen and being fascinated by them. You can not put a price tag on memories like that.
Oh, and here is my little spoon and fork set with a Disney Donald Duck cup from my own childhood. I was born in the 1960's so I would date this back to that time. I love this as well. Donald is so cute. The bottom of the cup is stamped "The Disney Collection, Japan". Lot's of milk was sipped out of this cup. I'm glad that after forty something years, this cup is still in fairly good shape.
Have a great week everyone!!!

Diners, Drive-ins and Dives: Hartsel Colorado's only Restaurant and Bar
It is hard sometimes not to judge a book by its cover....in this case....this only restaurant in Hartsel Colorado is a clear reason why to follow that advice.
This little hole in the wall restaurant and bar is really a gem of a place to stop and eat.....even if there is not another restaurant for nearly 20 miles. Formally The HOB aka Hartsel's Only Bar or from the locals I heard tell HOB stood for Hateful Old Bit**.....who was the lady that ran the place...I don't know about the later, but it is indeed the only bar around these parts too. We discovered it is now called Highline Cafe and the article about the new name change was found in The Flume newspaper online, here if you care to read about it......you know you have nothing better to do!
Anyway...when you walk in the doors, it is like a step back in time. This is far from a five star environment, believe me. The furniture, fixtures and decor appear to have been there since the beginning of time.....and most likely has been. You just have to really look past all the old furniture and decor and just have a seat and order your meal......
Here in the front window this particular afternoon was sun tea brewing for all to see! I have to admit, they do have the best tea around, and I guess this is the reason why. The staff is friendly enough I guess....certainly not stellar. But once you get your meal, all of that fades away and all you can think about is how wonderful your meal is.
I happen to love hamburgers, and this place has the best burgers I have had in a mighty long time. They also have buffalo burgers that the locals claim to be wonderful, but I never have tried one of those. All I can say is the best burgers this side of the Rockies are happening at this little hole in the wall restaurant......and let me tell you about the fresh cut, homemade fries.....oh, they are simply sinful!
When we were there a couple of weeks ago at our cabin, we ate here twice that week. It was real treat for me, as I am always cooking and cleaning up when we are at our cabin. So I already had my hamburger for the week, and I forgot to take a picture...sorry....but this is what I ordered on our second visit......this club sandwich was amazing....simply amazing. The veggies were the freshest and the meats were the tastiest from anything I have ever had here at home! Lots of food and it cost very little.....of course I love that it came with the famous homemade fries!
This little hole in the wall place serves American and Mexican food that is very good. Breakfast is amazing too with homemade hash browns that your granny could have made!!
I don't know if some would classify this little place as a diner or a dive....but I can attest it does not matter, the food alone outweighs the decor and service and the atmosphere is a step back in time and super fun to experience. It does not hurt that the mountains serve as a beautiful backdrop to this little place....next time your in the area.....be sure and stop by and give it a try....remember....it is Hartsel Colorado's only eating and drinking establishments....you can't miss it!!

First, Fifth, Forever - A Letter Writing Journey for 2011 - June 2011
I can hardly believe it is June, six months into First Fifth Forever here at The Coloradolady. This past month was a busy one for me. I sent out lots of thank you notes to individuals who really made my day. The birthday cards went out as well. I don't know how many are actually doing this each month, but I keep it up in case someone is inspired to take part.
I received the sweetest thank you letter in the mail from one of the Birthday Seniors that we sent out cards to last month. I was thrilled she took the time to write a note back and let me know how much she enjoyed her surprise.
I also was greatly surprised with this adorable pattern for a quilted jacket sent to me by Katie Q. I was really touched that she thought of me and wanted to send me a surprise!! Thank you again Katie!!! I love it.
This month, on my calendar for June, I don't have any seniors Birthday to report.....so if you know of one, leave a message in the comment section or email me...I'd love to have the opportunity to send a card and a dollar to a senior this month.
And lastly, I'd like to leave you with this thought.....it is the little things in life, not the big ones that mean the most in so many ways. Take a minute to do something small for someone you know or a total stranger.....it will make a big difference. Have a great week everyone...be inspired!
I have a link up if you'd like to link in and share something today....thanks!

I'd also like to ask that you say a prayer for my friend, Pat who inspired this whole Birthday for Seniors project. She is the mother of a blogger and she has suffered a stroke and the prognosis is not good. She was found unconscious Friday and as of today, I don't think there is any change. Please remember Pat in your prayers and her family. She is the "Fine" in the One Fine Blessing here at Coloradolady.
