Vintage Thingie Thursday: Vintage Farm Journal's Country Cookbook

Welcome everyone to Vintage Thingies Thursday. If you have a love for vintage things, well....you have come to the right place. We have a "dog-gone" good time each and every week!!! If you are new to this party, please take the time to read and follow the instructions for participating in Vintage Thingies Thursday, click HERE. I try and keep things fairly simple, so  please make sure you follow the instructions.
Please only ONE link per week.

One of my favorite things to look for when I go to estate sales is unusual cookbooks or cookbooks that have basic tried and true, down home cooking recipes! I found this one not too long ago and as I was thumbing through it, I know I had to have it!

Farm Journal's Country Cookbook was originally printed in 1959. In 1972 it was published again and promised to be a revised, enlarged edition by Farm Journal, Inc.  Trust me, there are 525 pages of amazing photos and recipes!

Here is the inside cover.....with a promise of more goodies to come!

Jellied Meat Molds.....ummm...I realize these were all the craze at one time, but I am sorry, I don't think I could even think of serving these types of dishes, much less eating them.

What I love about this book is all throughout there are check marks like this indicating a saved recipe. It always makes me wonder if it was a favorite with the previous owner of the book or did she mark the ones she had already cooked. There were lots marked in this book, so I tend to believe they must be all good!!

After all, with photos like this.....they'd have to be delicious...right?? Happy Vintage Thingie Thursday everyone!! Have a wonderful weekend.

  10. Though I don't cook much anymore, I love looking at cookbooks and especially seeing the personalized notes and comments the original owner made in them. Your example is a winner. Thanks for sharing and hosting!

  11. Awesome! My husband and I love to look at old cookbooks, especially from the 1950s and 1960s;sometimes the recipes and dishes that are pictured are......interesting...to say the least! It's amazing how tastes have changed!

  12. Hi Suzanne, I do love this old Farm Journal cookbook. The photos are so 'pretty' and they look delicious. I have a 1930's cookbook that is illustrated like this. I actually have some recipes marked that I bake from time to time. It has all kinds of charts for cooking or baking about everything. It is fun to collect old cookbooks and I have quite a few. This is a fun share today.

  13. I also collect cookbooks. Years ago I spent almost the whole day shopping and preparing one of the recipes and when we sat down to eat my beautiful dinner it tasted horrible! Months later I tryed the same recipe and it really was 'bad.' That's when I started marking up my books. Thanks for sharing.

  16. I love old cookbooks too. I think I did a VTT about them once, including some nasty gelatinous mess like the meat dish pictured above. (GAG!!) Thanks for sharing your book with us. That walnut cookie recipe looks tasty!

  19. Suzanne, Please take down one of my double posts. It took forever for them to come up and I thought the first one didn't take. The first thing I always think is that I have done something wrong. Sorry, for the inconvenience. Hugs, Ginger

Sometimes someone says something really small, and it's like it fits into this empty space in your heart!

Thank you for stopping by and leaving your thoughts here, they really mean a lot to me!
