SkyWatch Friday: South Park Colorado

Are you familiar with South Park television show? You know the place where these four dysfunctional kids, Stan, Kyle, Kenny and Cartman cause a real ruckus in a Colorado small town. Of course you have heard of these guys. I happen to know some individuals who never miss an episode. And let me make one thing clear, I do not include myself in that group.

Did you ever think that such a place really existed? Have you ever wondered if there even was a South Park Colorado? Well, I am here to tell you the answer is yes. There is a real South Park Colorado. Click HERE to see for yourself.

But first, take a look at my SkyWatch photos for this week, of this charming little town in the heart of Colorado.

The deep blue skies and the white cotton-like clouds set a rather beautiful backdrop for the brightly painted buildings of yesterday.

South Park a restored 1800's mining town
South Park City is a reconstructed representation of many Colorado mining towns dating from about 1860 to 1900. Located in Fairplay, there are 34 authentic buildings filled with more than 60,000 artifacts of daily life from the days of the mining boom towns. Seven of the buildings are on their original foundations while the other 27 have come from all over Park County, from such places as Tarryall, Eureka, Buckskin Joe, Mudsill, and Horseshoe.

I hope you enjoyed my SkyWatch post for this Friday. Be sure to take a look at all the beautiful sky photos from around the world by clicking HERE. Have a great weekend, and remember to keep your eyes on the skies.

  14. I knew that LOL. I have never even once watched that cartoon. Never liked what I heard about it. I was told one time have no idea if its true that the creators of South Park worked for the Forest Service there in Fairplay for a summer during their college years.

South Park refers to the southern mountain park in Colorado. It was also know by the Idians as Bayou Salado, meaning Salt Swamp. As evidenced by the Slat Works Ranch near Antero Junction. South Park is the home to Alma, Como, Fairplay, Hartsel, and Jefferson. I do so miss it.
